The first in the great American History graphic novel series Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales. I didn’t love it as much as the other ones I’ve read but it was nice to read the origin. I realize just how much I don’t know/remember about the Revolutionary War. It was especially helpful to see the battles (retreats/ground covered) on a map in “real time.” As always, I’m stoked to see the bibliography at the end and learn more about the real people.

This is a clever book, aimed at getting children to read about the American Revolution. The comic book illustrations were well done.

One Dead Spy is the story of Nathan Hale, America's first spy and a Revolutionary War officer. In this graphic novel, Nathan Hale, is about to be hanged for his crime but distracts the Provost and Hangman by sharing his story. He begins with his days as a soldier and continues with his brief time as a spy during the Revolutionary War. This non-fiction graphic novel is a fantastic historical tale for kids.

- Wonderfully humorous and educational! Great for all ages! I would love to see history teachers use these Hazardous Tales in some of their lessons.

- The hangman is my favorite. I love how he is always thinking of a sandwich.

- I thought the whole story was very clever. Nathan Hale telling his story to the hangman and a redcoat is really fun, and it keeps things lighthearted.

- I loved how accurate the book was. It covered a lot of the Revolutionary War in very easy to understand segments. Of course the author took some liberties with things, but the overall story is correct.

- I love that the author is Nathan Hale, and the story is about Nathan Hale!

- The illustrations were wonderful. I loved the use of red highlights and black and white. I loved the facial expressions of the characters.

- Each frame was really fun, and I really liked the layouts for some pages.

- The little bits at the end were funny and fun.

- Great book!! I highly recommend it!

What a fun way to introduce United States History to young readers! I loved it and will definitely be checking out the rest AND handing these to my kids. If your kids (or you) like graphic novels, check these out. Fun and educational as well.
