Overall, a satisfying if slow thriller. I don’t have a lot of experience with the genre, but I found it a little dragging. Jake’s internal monologue and woebegone attitude took up a lot more space than his initiative in finding out what happened.
I was also getting pretty confused towards the end between Evan’s story, Jake’s story, and the truth. The parallels, I’m sure, were intentional. But the same plot points repeating created a muddle for me.

Slightly annoyed with the main character for not seeing things coming especially when I figured out where most of this was headed by like the third chapter smh. But the build up to some of the twists was fun and I like how the writing really encompassed that feeling of dread
Хотел написать, что (тут сейчас будет много уровней вложенности и я заранее извиняюсь) книга о настолько хорошем (украденном!) сюжете, что даже самый бездарный писака может взять его в основу своей макулатуры и попасть в NYT Best Sellers — это, наверное, гипотетически интересно, но вы с такой затравкой или никогда не приводите этот самый сюжет, или приводите и всех разочаровываете.
И что мол ладно б это было единственной проблемой, но написана она настолько стерильно, что защищать здесь нечего.
Но, в общем, как вы понимаете, на фоне этой стерильности — и сюжет под вопросом в книге приводится, и... в NYT Best Sellers она попала.
