Dark August totally took me by surprise. I was surprised that I ended up loving the writing style which was different enough at first that I wasn’t sure I would continue. I was surprised that I ended up loving Gus because in the beginning I totally didn’t like her. I was surprised at what a terrific mystery this ended up being and I was surprised that I ended up being totally taken by surprise. And, I was really surprised to find out this was a debut novel. You won’t regret giving this one a try.

This book was such a slow burn that I started to get annoyed. I did appreciate having all the little pieces fit together at the end but it all just felt a little stale and predictable.
Augusta was very well developed and I loved her character but everyone else just felt one-dimensional.
