This started out great, funny, thought provoking… then quickly went downhill and I really didn’t enjoy it. I listened to the audiobook and it felt so shouty. The abbreviations followed by the immediate explanation felt unnecessary & also a little patronising (like, here dummy, let me explain) I didn’t find the constant ridicule of british people throughout the book funny. maybe because im a brit, but then again taking the piss out of ourselves & laughing at one another is what we are best at… but it just bordered on offensive. Observational comedy can be funny, this wasnt, and the mocking british accent throughout. Urgh! Overall just ended up feeling like i was listening to a drunk woman in the bathroom of a club just talking about anything with no purpose or structure. It felt self-indulgent. So disappointed as it started well and 30% into the audiobook i had recommended to a friend..  by 65% i text to withdraw my recommendation.

I have to read Phoebe Robinson in bite sized pieces, but I think many of her insights are both humorous and thought provoking. I particularly appreciated her essay on self care and how we're doing it wrong.

I’d never heard of Phoebe Robinson before I got her book and if I’m honest, I got it 90% because I love the cover and 10% someone said it was good. And omggg was it good! Phoebs (my nickname for her because I feel like I know her) is hilarious and real with hot takes for dayZzzz. I didn’t agree with all her hot takes but, surprise! You can still enjoy and respect books (and people!) if you don’t see eye to eye on everything. Definitely planning to visit her backlist in the next few weeks!

I finally finally finally finished this book. I am so glad and I know my library is really glad that I’m going to bring it back finally! Lol!

It’s just something about short story collections or essay collections that really really take me a long time to read! Anyway…

I really enjoyed this book. Phoebe Robinson tackled some serious topics mixed in with a lot of humor, a lot of great analysis, and I feel up to speed on all the latest millennial jargon! (I feel so outdated writing that like that,
