There were several great essays in here that you should definitely check out:
- “Yes, I have free time because I don’t have kids”
-“Black Girl, Will Travel”
-“We Don’t Need Another White Savior”
- “Self-Care is Not a Candle and Therapy is Not a Notebook”

But overall I wasn’t really into this collection which typically happens with any sort of essay collection. I wasn’t completely engaged the whole time but I love how distinctive her voice is and I would be able to tell if I was reading an essay by Robinson. Definitely check out the essays above!
Love all the U2 and Bono stuff too lol

Audiobook is amazing! Made me laugh out loud multiple times. Entertaining essays with some great social commentary.

Book #30 of 2023. Please Don’t Sit on My Bed in Your Outside Clothes by Phoebe Robinson.

I got another non-fiction read under my belt!  This was a collection of completely enjoyable essays. I was not familiar with the author, but the book was recommended to me. Ms. Robinson covered a range of topics from mental health and self care to interracial dating and performative allyship.  She’s a great writer and I found myself laughing out loud (literally) at some of the things she said. I’ll definitely read more of her writing.

I didn’t find this collection of essays as strong as some of Robinson’s earlier works and I didn’t feel like they were all the same caliber or that they even all went together. However, some of the essays, were 5 star essays on their own. I highly recommend reading the essays on not needing another White savior, traveling while Black and on deciding to be child free. Robinson is like the really smart friend you look forward to brunching with and I look forward to her future works.

3.5 stars - I love Phoebe Robinson. These essays at times are researched well and poignant. The style could sometimes annoy me with the sheer volume of sidebars and a.k.a.’s.
