A second chance romance written by Rachael Stewart is a combination I couldn't let pass me by.

Cain O'Connor left his fiancée and family after a huge row. Seven years later, he's back after the tragic death of his father and younger brother. However, life has moved on during his absence...although some things remain the same. Alexa "Lexi", is the only woman he has ever loved, however, she betrayed him but still…

Alexa is struggling to keep her head above water since the death of her husband and father-in-law. As the new CEO of the O'Connor family business, she has no time for herself and the board members are losing confidence in her ability to keep the company afloat. When Cain O'Connor comes back, he makes it clear he's there to support her in her role, Yet the fire of desire burns deep between them. Only, will the past come back and haunt them?

It's complicated doesn't come close to describing the relationship between Cain and Alexa. Their attraction, lust and love for each other are as highly charged as its ever been but each has a valid reason for keeping away from the other. The narrative is angsty, filled with electrically charged scenes of attraction between the two flawed characters. Both are guilty of believing presumptive thoughts about the other's actions. It's heartbreaking and frustrating in equal measure.

The happily ever after is a stark contrast to the journey and progress made by the protagonists. The author making sure the drama ends on a high. Still, I wonder how these two characters would fare in the real world… I'd like to think they are meant for each other but I'm not so sure.

Overall, I enjoyed this as much as I have the other books I've read by Ms Stewart. It's fast-paced, drawing the reader into the story however, some readers may struggle with one aspect of the storyline.

This isn't the first novel I've read of Rachael Stewart and since that first book I read, I have been excited with each new novel that she writes. "Losing Control" is a contemporary romance and it has explicit sex scenes, which I'm 100% fine with it, it's part of life and part of the story.

In this novel we follow Cain and Alexa, in a second chance love story that will not only create sparks, but it will light up our minds with the interactions between them. Cain is back home and Alexa already dealing with the family business.

There is something interesting about reading a book that present us with a second chance romance. There is a backstory between the MCs and that is always interesting to see. I loved how we got to learn more about the past, and see how they reacted to each other now. The development of the characters and their relationship, made sense to me.

Overall, I enjoyed it. It was a good (and hot) summer read that made me sigh, smile and enjoy the journey with all the obstacles and emotional moments. Just what I have come to love in Rachael Stewart's novels.

[I want to thank Rachel, at Rachel’s Random Resources, and Rachael Stewart for the eCopy of this book and for allowing me to join in the fun and being a part of the blog tour with my honest review of the book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.]
