Practical and Funny- I laughed while listening to it- the audio is great because she narrates

its like getting high and writing a cook book, with, for some odd reason adverts for pantyhose scattered about, and a weird mushroom that looks like a penis.

It's funny... for the most part. There are some really clever bits, and some parts I just skipped. I don't really know what I was expecting from a comedy book on entertaining and cooking.

I have used the chocolate cake recipe in it, though.

Ridiculous, irreverent, crazy and funny. It's Amy Sedaris, after all. This would make a great gift for an equally nutty-in-the-best-way-possible friend. A fun way to entertain, it will certainly have your guests talking for quite some time. Although whether they will want to attend any subsequent get togethers you throw is up in the air. *wink, wink*

Funny, stupid, random. Yay!

Huh, this book was definitely not what I expected it to be. Maybe less than 1/3 of it met my expectations of it being a humorous and parody-like novel - there was some truly hilarious stuff and there was some that was waaaay overboard. It starts with Amy's mocking and sarcastic description of hospitality, unfortunately later on it turns a bit boring.

The other part, the one that took me by surprise was for the large part of it recipes and the rest was some creative ideas. I'm not saying it was bad, actually there were some pretty good ones that I might go back to when I'm in the mood. It's just that I'm slightly disappointed, I was hoping for a good laugh, I got it in a way but it was far too small portion of the book and I found myself mostly scrolling through directions of how to cook various meals.

LOVE Amy Sedaris and loved this book--really useful recipes and advice told (and shown) in the most hilarious of ways. Great gift for anyone who likes entertaining and irreverant humor.

Someone gave me this audiobook right before I drove the 13 hours from my parents' house to home. Otherwise, I might've never known about it. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started listening, but it certainly wasn't Amy Sedaris's quick wit and humor combined with some pretty good hosting tips. She was hilarious! I definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants a light read (or has a long drive ahead of them).

This cracked me up. Hilarious pictures, and the crafts and recipes are all retro trash - in a good and reminiscent way! A combination of actual advice and comedic "advice."
The recipes all seem real (I thought they were going to be more joke-y, like an "Elephant Stew" type of thing) - although they ARE the type of recipes hastily scrawled on four lines of an index card that you find glued by unidentifiable food-stuffs to the bottom of a drawer in your gramma's house.

Also, this book helped me to make a new friend - the library clerk in my current city. He has only ever made weird grunting sounds and avoids eye contact when checking my material out, but when I handed him this book, he looked me straight in the eye and said, "I LOVE Amy Sedaris. I love her." If I ever host a party based on the hospitality quidelines of this book, I will totally invite him.

Only two stars from me, but the graphic layout of the book is fun. :)
