Clarissa travels to Scotland to visit her friend Kate (the heroine of the previous book). Clarissa is trying to hide from a nasty stalker-ish ex-beau who is clearly unhinged and whose threats are spiralling out of control.

Clarissa has a huge crush on Kate's brother-in-law Campbell, a mountain of a man who decides to take Clarissa out to his home in the Highlands where she can be kept safe. A marriage of convenience follows.

Campbell has a tortured past and is reticent to further encourage Clarissa's attachment. Despite his attraction to her, he feels he's unworthy.

There was a nice thread of magic throughout the story, with Campbell and some others having "the Sight", with the ability to have prophetic dreams. This added a little extra to an otherwise fairly standard 'Lady-in-trouble, broody alpha-to-the-rescue' storyline.

This book contains multiple descriptive love scenes.

Solid 3.
Mrs. MacBean’s best book.

I was doing other things while this book was playing in the background. I always thought Campbell was the dimmest of the brothers. Come to find out he’s a dreamwalker - what? The male Violet sorrengail. That’s how him and his wife first hooked up. She’s his wife because she has a stalker and he can protect her. The end.

The Midnight in Scotland Series keeps getting better and better! Kate MacPherson (FMC from book 2) invites her best friend Clarissa to stay in the highlands, and sparks fly between her and Kate’s gentle giant of a brother in law, Campbell. Turns out that Clarissa is running from a mad, obsessed, stalker - Campbell is just the man to keep her safe… and eventually marry her because he’s smitten. One thing i love about this series is that we’re not waiting til the bitter end for the MCs to get together. There is absolutely 3rd act conflict, but often the MCs are already married and working through it together, which makes the HEA that much more satisfying!

Also, so many supporting characters hit their stride in this book - Mrs. MacBean, Nora and Angus, Francis and George - the gang’s all here and they round out the story of the MCs beautifully.
