My favorite female lead so far in the series, but the least interesting in terms of the relationship between the main couple and to some extent the whole plot of the book. It starts to feel formulaic. The part that really stood out to me was her trauma with pets.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death, Stalking

Yay I've finally read something by Elisa Braden! I got this recommendation from Jenn from the Book Refuge on YouTube, and it was really good. Grumpy/sunshine, mutual pining, forced proximity = love it. I didn't love that he didn't tell her he was infertile until after they were married. Not that it mattered in the end because those with The Sight in the story saw them eventually having TOO MANY children (9? 10?) anyway. I liked Clarissa and Campbell together a lot, and the steamy scenes were quite steamy! He's like 6'9 and . The emotional intimacy was well done.
Very cute! I'll definitely check out more from Elisa Braden.
TW for animal cruelty and death from the villain.

Didn't like Clarissa as a character, she and Campbell have nothing in common. They're attracted only on looks. And then I didn't like how it took so long for us to learn about her issues with Northfield. This wasn't mentioned at all in the previous book so felt completely made up just to give this book some plot to push them together in a marriage of convenience.
Clarissa goes to stay in Scotland with her bff Kate after she receives a threatening note that her stalker is back. Their gay friend Francis has offered to marry her but she doesn't want a loveless marriage. Instead they have her marry Campbell because he's the only available MacPherson brother for reasons. He takes her back to his rundown cabin which she proceeds to turn into a nice living space but she discovers a carved statue of a woman. Thinking it's his real love she gets sad. Campbell had some former love, Ilya(sp?), but he came down with a fever that nearly killed him and she caught it while tending him. Campbell has a bit of the "sight" and he saw Ilya in his dreams who warned him that his consequence would be that he's sterile.
Initially not believing it but he's been with a lot of women and he had another woman he got close to that they could never conceive. When he tells this to Clarissa she feels betrayed that he doesn't love her enough to have told her this before marrying her - he was selfish about it. Rather than being sulky about it she gets angry and tries to like seduce him into trying to have a baby with her anyway because the old crone gave her a fertility charm.
They continue to have threats from Northfield but its when the men are led on a goose chase that Northfield gets her alone. He shoots the dog, Fergus, but he does live in the end. She shoots Northfield and Campbell arrives in time to save her. Campbell has a vision of their son so he knows she can get pregnant, and in the epilogue she seems to be.
This felt a bit like Lynsay Sands' Highlander series where each book the FMC is being targeted and they have to solve the mystery, but unfortunately this isn't as good as those.
