Sadly very forgettable but a good feel-good romance.
Potential Trigger Warning for animal death
This was cute and easy to read. It had the tropes that I love; marriage of convenience, cold looking softie hero, gentle heroine, hero protecting the heroine from danger. So overall, I enjoyed this book. But some things bothered me.
The romance built up was weird. Campbell didn't even want Clarissa to be in his house at first but later in the book he confesses that he loved her since the first day they saw each other. I also didn't like the way "magic" was used here. One of the characters were known to be mad but she was basically telling them what to do throughout the book so a lot of plot holes could be conveniently overlooked. And what was the point of shared dreams if it was only used in one scene.
Campbell's "first love" story was also underdeveloped and to be honest unnecessary.
If the second half was edited and thought-out more, this could have been a 4 star read for me.

Spoiler
He was so in love with this girl that he wanted to die after she died. But then we learn that she only took care of him when he was sick and then she died because of this sickness. So when exactly did they even fall in love? Campbell also tells Clarissa that his feelings for this other woman is nothing compared to his feelings for her so what was the point of his first love story? If the second half was edited and thought-out more, this could have been a 4 star read for me.

For a book whose plot is forwarded by a stalker plot line, it is very silly.

Maybe the most paranormal of the Midnight in Scotland series, this book is a propulsive mix of plot and love story. I adored Clarissa with her embarrassing babbling habit and found myself giggling at her unintentional double entendres with Campbell.
And Campbell - whew!! A terse mountain of a man who is absolutely smitten with his lady love? Gimme it. When he does talk it’s spicy AF and/or adorable.
The main plot of this book is quite dark so do check the CW. This book is nearly perfect save for the multiple references to how Clarissa “used to be plump.” I wish Braden had not chosen weight loss as the thing that made Clarissa suddenly marriageable, alas, it’s there.

Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death, Gun violence, Sexual content, Grief, Stalking, Murder, Fire/Fire injury
Moderate: Fatphobia, Death of parent
Clarissa has a stalker and he is extra dangerous and violent.
slow-paced
It started out promising, but this was a disappointment.
Clarissa is a nice broke girl with a good head on her shoulders who used to be overweight, but had an off-page weight loss journey before the beginning of the book. Everyone is pretty relieved that she's hot now, especially her evil stalker. Her grandma is cool. Campbell is growly, and his superpower is really excellent wet dreams. I'm honestly not sure what else to say about him; I was hoping for a teddy bear oldest brother archetype with some hidden sweetness, but he was just cranky, large and dull.
The couple spends half the book trying not to be together for pretty tedious reasons that could have been resolved with a conversation or an "I like you; do you like me? Circle yes or no" note. There was a lot of manufactured angst and the damsel in distress vibes made this book geek like it was written 15 years ago. The villain is extremely cliche, and I'm convinced her name is Clarissa so that the audiobook narrator could use their best Hannibal Lecter voice and almost say 'Clarice' (no the narrator who did good work here).
Could have skipped this one, unfortunately; the first book in this series is the gold standard.

Pets in danger, infertility cured by love, attempted sexual assault, stalking.
4- this series definitely has a darker feel than the first which isn’t my fav but still a good read
This WAS very lovely. So happy for Campbell. Clarissa was a doll too.
But how many times does she mention she used to be plump and now is slimmer? Good god. Can we pls get more plus size heroines to stop this nonsense.
Absolutely loved the spicy scenes. These MacPherson men are very interesting in the bedroom.
