As with all the other books in Sutter Lake series - #4 - Beautifully Broken Control is a wonderful story with characters that engage you and make you root for a happy ending. Kennedy Charles has a secret from her past that caused her to change her name, move to a place where no one knows her and that she desperately wants to keep buried. Cain Hale has experienced such trauma and tragedy in his past that he puts up barriers to protect himself from ever feeling such pain or heartbreak ever again. But that all changes when he meets Kennedy. While trying to keep Kennedy at arms length he finds himself drawn to her and unable to keep his distance, and as he gets to know her and care for her, he becomes more overprotective. While Kennedy shares her past and her secrets with Cain, he will not talk about the tragedies that haunt him and when one of Kennedy's actions cause him to have a flashback, it all becomes too much for her to bear. But someone from Kennedy's past is trying to hurt her and after a series of "accidents", takes things to another level. Can Cain prevent further tragedy?

“We weren’t the perfect people, but we just might be perfect for each other.”

2.5 stars.

Having every single main female character kidnapped in this series is just lazy writing and i'm tired of it.. every time their past is revealed i'm now like "so she's getting kidnapped by the end of the book, so original".. it honestly feels like every single book on this series (minus book 3 maybe) is just a recycled storyline of the first book.. woman shows up in town with a secret past, meets guy, is afraid to get attached, they end up falling in love, one of them fucks up, woman gets kidnapped, he goes feral and they make up in the hospital after he finds her, rinse and repeat. The ONLY thing that changes is the backstory of each character... And speaking of backstories.. Cain's hypocrisy when he invaded Kennedy's privacy and looked up her past and then refused to reveal his to her just to lose it on her and throw her out of his house when she accidentally stumbled on a picture and let her curiosity get the best of her? instant turn off.

But lets give credit where credit is due : JensenTuck & the found family in this series are the best things about it, hands down!

This series was one of those that simply kept getting better with each new release that the author came out with, and Beautifully Broken Control is certainly the best of the lot. Both Kennedy and Cain were trying to leave the far more devastating parts of their lives in the past by moving to Sutter Lake, and my heart broke for these two because what they experienced before were the sort that could truly destroy you. I liked that Cain and Kennedy were initially at odds because it just makes for a far more interesting turn-around in terms of their relationship. The element of suspense here was perfectly weaved into the story, and when the villain was revealed, I already had a feeling it was who it turned out to be, but ugh, talk about heartrending. I loved seeing the growth of Kennedy and Cain as individuals as much as I did seeing their relationship evolve and realizing just how far they had come. We also have the couple from the first three previous Sutter Lake novels, and everything tied together, coming in a full circle moment of sorts, which is yet another reason Beautifully Broken Control was a five-star read. ♥

I loved Mason and Kennedy, and this was a little different from the normal Catherine Cowles style, by a hairsbreadth of a margin, so that was interesting too.

I loved finally reading about the mysterious Cain. He was mentioned in practically all the other books and it left me curious to find out more about this man. Plus to also finally read all that Kennedy went through to find her way to Sutter Lake was a game changer. As per usual with all of Catherine Cowles books the ending is either a shock or somewhat of a "I saw that coming" moment; this one was one of the ones where I was left in complete shock and was surprised to say the least.

I can't put into words how much I loved this book. I fall in love with this series more and more and I'm sad to see the series end. Hey who knows, we might see them later on :)

When we met Kennedy in Beautifully Broken Spirit, I wondered what her story was. Cain always held my interest too and when I saw this book was about them, I was so excited :)

Kennedy and Cain's past are both heartbreaking in different ways. I just wanted to hug them both. You can tell from the first time they meet, there is a spark there, but both are so closed off.

Throughout the book, we see their relationship slowly build from friendship to eventually more all while we see the rest of the crew from Sutter Lake. Let me just say I love the friendship that Cain had with the guys. They have been there for him and you can see the love and respect between them. Kennedy is lucky to have found them too along with the ladies from Sutter Lake.

I loved the story from beginning to end and the epilogue/bonus scene was EVERYTHING!! If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend it.
