Two broken people with secrets find each other while their past lurks. He's controlled and over protective, and she's strong, kind and seeking redemption. There's wariness amidst the simmering attraction and the process of them opening up is a slow burn, as they both had *a lot* to work through, but eventually found a kindred soul in each other.

I enjoyed their romance and their emotional bond, and the subtle but sexy heat. But I did need
more grovelling from him for his fuck up</spoile>! It's still a solid read with a good touch of suspense, and the side charas really add to it.

Cain carries a secret of his own and only a couple of people know the truth behind what drives him.  The latest blow though has him heading back to Sutter Lake and contemplating his next step.  He doesn't plan on Kennedy, but he sees something in her that pulls at him.  He wants to correct a wrong  from his past but Kennedy is not going to let him bulldoze her.   As two pasts collide, hope for a brighter future is in their midst but trouble is stirring, will they be able to be hold on tight for what is coming their way.

This was a bit of a heartbreaker at times.  I had my interest peaked on Cain from the previous books.  Everything I expected and more.  Page turner, pulls you in and doesn't let go. Best so far in the series.

“Life is a cycle. It ebbs and flows. There are moments that are so hard, you’ll think they’ve broken you, and you’ll never recover. But it’s those moments that make you appreciate the goodness, the sweetness, something so beautiful it will almost seem painful to take it all in.” ⁣⁣

I am not sure I have ever resonated with a book more than I did with Beautifully Broken Control; its characters and messages were just so inspiring and uplifting. A slow burn, small town romance with a hint of angst and mystery, this story was everything I hoped for and more. ⁣

What a treat it was returning to Sutter Lake, with its signature small town charm, how I wish it was a real place. It is the perfect place for people looking for a fresh start and truly was the right place for both Cain and Kennedy, who are each struggling to outrun their demons and move forward from pasts that will not let go. Each lives with guilt over things that were not their fault. In the end, each find themselves and each other, as well as a home and family in Sutter Lake. ⁣⁣

I absolutely adored Kennedy and admired her positive outlook on life and her dedication to finding gratitude in even the smallest things. I loved her practice of writing down things she was grateful for and putting those scraps of paper into a gratitude jar. As someone who struggles with anxiety and depression and often slips into a negative mindset, Kennedy’s practices are something I aspire too. My struggles, however, also made me really connect with Cain and his habit of thinking negatively and his struggles to accept his victories and accomplishments rather than focusing on his failures. Watching him find love and happiness with Kennedy filled my heart with joy. ⁣⁣

Something I really enjoyed and appreciated about this book was Cain’s discussions with his therapist. It was so great to see a character, especially a male character, embracing the powerful tool that is therapy and for it to be treated so normally. ⁣

This was a supremely well written, heartfelt romance that I would definitely recommend.

The last book of the sutter series and I’m so sad it’s over. Cain was the ultimate protector... to the max. It was due to his past history and not being able to provide that to the one he was supposed to protect. Kennedy is trying to make a new start, be a better person, and make it on her own. So sad these books are over.
