I really liked the start of this book, but it went quickly downhill.
I liked the MC's magic, this book had a lot of opportunities to be a true cozy fantasy. But alas,
Every character was extremely dumb. The "funny" and "witty" remarks were lame, cringe and cartoonish.
Why were so many of the characters get blackout drunk so often?
AND WHY.. WHYYy? DID THE NARRATOR USE THAT VOICE FOR THE CAT? Why was the cat a stereotypical black guy? And why were all the other cats also black and in a gang?
This enraged me.
This book also felt homophobic, but masquerading as if they were accepting.

I only finished this book because I made myself a rule that I can only rate books I finish. I also didn't have another audiobook lined up. I would have DNF'd this so fast if I read this physically.
Want to give it one star, but had a few small redeeming factors.
Will not continue!

Incredibly sweet cozy read.
At first I was daunted by the number of pages, but the story was very engaging, and it was an easy read.
Although it is mainly cosy there are instances of abuse, domestic abuse and bullying. There are a number of arguments and sometimes situations escalate. So there was tension, but it was ultimately resolved.
A few of the chapters were from the Witch's cat's perspective and these were quite funny. The cats were trying to act all tough like they were in a gang, but the dialog was so cute.
The story had many laugh out loud moments, and characters had good chemistry together.

Struggled to finish due to the unlikeability of the annoying characters, the forced "hilarious" interludes and the jarringly generic names. Despite the constant allusions to imminent war, nothing seemed to happen and it was never made clear why the only way to save the kingdom was for a foreign noble to marry another foreign noble. Only finished it because I can't bear to leave any book unfinished.
