the first half of the book had me non stop reading but then i just got bored of the middle and end. it felt tedious at times and sometimes confusing. probably the longest it's taken me to finish a book in a while

Kimberly McCreight knows exactly how to write a mystery/thriller. This was goooooooooood and the way she interwove little tidbits throughout the story was perfect.

Can’t give it five stars because it’s not an “all time favourite” but would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

3.5

Actually I would give it a 3.5

Wow! This took me a bit to get into but once I did I was hooked! Twist ending I didn't see coming. I highly recommend this book!

If you read any of McCreight's books, particularly Reconstructing Amelia, you will love this book. The author's return to adult fiction / mystery (although I liked her Outliers series) was very well received. A Good Marriage highlights a few marriages that might seem healthy on the outside but looks can be deceiving. There are so many little clues in the book that you might dismiss, but you have to pay attention to every detail. The mystery involving who killed Amanda Grayson isn't quite as compelling as who was stalking her- everyone assumes the husband did it, including the police. The Park Slope area of Brooklyn may seem idyllic, but scandals including sex parties, computer hacking, etc as well as dynamic characters make this book so well read. It was almost flawlessly written. There's still a question or 2 I have, but it leaves for thought about this book for some time to come.
dark medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Loveable characters: Complicated

So twisty!

When Lizzie was last happy, she was a prosecutor and married to Sam, and now she’s forced to work in an elite law firm where she doesn’t want to be. Now, an inmate, who also happens to be a former friend, is asking her for help.

The help? Her friend, Zach’s, wife is found at the bottom of the stairs, and he is the suspect. All is not as it appears with Zach and his wife... and what Lizzie is about to experience will question everything she thinks she knows about “good marriages.”

A Good Marriage is a well-paced, original, intriguing thriller. So much deception. So many lies. Who is being honest? Who is good? WHAT is good? I was completely swept up in this intense story and highly recommend it if you are looking for next exciting book!

I received a gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

This was a really good read. Very suspenseful and kept me wondering and trying to guess “whodunit”. Initially, I gave this a 5, but then realized I was still frustrated with Amanda’s character development. I wish there were more detail or more time spent to figure out the connection or why she was still consumed with Carolyn and her Daddy (besides the obvious). Also, what was this arrangement between her and Zach? I feel like they were both a little loopy. Clearly she was having delusions, but it would have been good for her to come to that realization at some point. I don’t know, maybe a little bit of closure for her character. But I love how everything else was tied together in a neat little bow towards the end.
