This one was too dark for me. If I had read it first I likely wouldn't have continued the series
Enjoyable. Not her best, but I had no clue about the murderer till it was revealed.
The mystery was well-crafted in that I both did not know who the murderer was and I definitely wanted to find out. Unfortunately, the prose in this book was so bad that I was hate-reading it the whole time. This was my first Mary Higgins Clark book and I was pretty disappointed in the quality of writing. The dialog was stilted and the descriptions were lazy. The number of “isn’t it true that”s and “wouldn’t you agree”s were astounding and groan-inducing. There was a segment where four lines of dialog in a row ended with “[character] said [adverb].” The text was so odd and disjointed that it pulled me out of the story regularly, which is not something a storyteller should want to do. My fiancée assures me that this is far and away the worst of the series, and MHC has a long and acclaimed career, so I still plan to read another. But with a degree of skepticism.
A thrilling mystery novel that revolves around a group of four friends. The story begins with a shocking event: Betsy Powell, is murdered after a graduation party hosted by Mr. Powell. Several years later, the friends find themselves invited to share their stories on a Reality TV Show.
As the book introduces us to the characters, it becomes evident that each of them is harboring a secret from that fateful night. Alongside numerous other characters, we embark on a journey to unravel the mystery behind the murder. Despite delving into the backgrounds of the characters, the book maintains a balanced focus on the central plot. Laura the host has an interesting story goin on the side too.
The author skillfully weaves a story within a story, capturing my attention from beginning to end. The intricate narrative keeps readers hooked as they follow the twists and turns in the hopes of solving the murder. Personally, I am intrigued by the unique premise of the TV Reality Show, and I secretly wish that it continues to serve as the foundation for future books in this series.
Overall, an engaging and captivating read. It successfully combines character development with an absorbing plot, making it an enjoyable choice for fans of mystery and suspense novels.

RATING:2.5 STARS
MHC was one of the first adult mystery novels I read. I started reading her when I was in my early teens, and always had this TV movie mystery feel. It wasn't overly graphic, was a bit soapy with relationships, and could be easily figured out. That isn't always a bad thing, as I did enjoy that in the 90s and early 2000s. I wasn't a huge fan of Laurie, but do like Timmy and Leo. I also liked the True Crime TV series storyline. There were a lot of storylines and seemed to kind of connect in an implausible way at times. Or maybe they just were wrapped up too quickly.

It's been a while, but I've read other MHC books and I thought I enjoyed her writing. Not this one though. It was awful!
There were far too many coincidences & the author kept repeating the facts every so many pages. I don't know if she thinks her readers have short memories or what, but it was a little too much.
The biggest issue for me, though, was the way the TV series was written. I mean, really? A producer wants to recreate a murder scene having the 'suspects' dress in the same gowns they wore 20 years prior? Seems a bit psychologically damaging. What TV executive will ok that? And the other TV stuff was equally unbelievable. If you have any idea how TV works, do not read this book. It will hurt your soul.

I loved it and I could not put it down, I figured that this was going to be a five star book and then the ending.
God really? You had so much potential book and then you spoilt it with the ending! Betsy Powell was killed for a reason but the reason is so typical and so cliche that although the suspect surprised me the reason spoilt everything and therefore this book is only going to be three stars. Disappointing ending.

A good solid book. Nothing spectacular, but better than the last one. Kept my interest and wanted to know how it was going to end.
