I actually think this was one of MHC's worst books. I didn't feel connected to any of the characters and felt it was uninteresting.
I liked seeing how the Under Suspicion characters' stories began but I liked #4 Sleeping Beauty killer and #5 Every Breath You Take in the series better. still this is an enjoyable and entertaining series and I will read the rest of the books in it. I read the large print version.
A solid series launch; this true crime show will allow for many more mysteries. Adding a murder to the main character’s backstory adds to her investment in the process.
I feel like I’ve been beaten over the head several times between the superfluous dialogue and the repetitive descriptions of the same scene over and over.
This also has some very dated language. Please explain to me what a sport shirt is; just say t-shirt damnit.

This is the first and last Mary Higgins Clark book I'll read. I struggled to get through it.
Four for plot and suspensefulness, two for writing.
Trigger warnings: murder (in the past), implications of sexual abuse (in the past), gun violence, blood.
This book was published in 2014 but it honestly feels like it's set in the 90s. There are a couple of references to Facebook and mobile phones, but the way the characters talk and interact and the way the story in general plays out and the way the characters are described? If you told me this was set in 1995, I wouldn't bat an eyelid.
The mystery itself was, honestly, quite dull. The story was reasonably fast paced, but there was SO MUCH HAPPENING in the last 30 pages that by the time I finished, my head was spinning. So, like, it was fine? But I also gave zero fucks and the reveal on who Blue Eyes was? Ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous.
