One of the easiest 5 stars I've ever given omg, this book is SO GOOD. Like, it's my new favourite book kind of good.

The lore of the book is one of my favourite fantasy concepts. It's unique, and super cool. There's a lovely romance, beautiful friendships (specifically female friendships!) and found family, as well as an empowering message.

The book has all of the classic elements you want in a YA fantasy, but it puts a spin on them that makes them feel at once fresh and exciting, and comfortingly familiar.

The plot kept me on my toes throughout - it's brutal at times, but entirely enjoyable, action packed and perfectly paced. There are twists that took me off guard too, and I'm so here for all of them!!

This review doesn't nearly do justice to this book, but if you take one single recommendation from me ever, please let it be this one😭🙏.

Aún tengo la duda de si le doy 4,5 o 5 ⭐️ porque de verdad, me ha encantado la historia y necesito urgentemente su segunda parte ❤️

What an interesting twist on the chosen one trope. I really enjoyed this world and all of its wonders.

4.5/5. Haunting and mysterious, this fantasy slowly unravels the answers to what is happening to Deka. The instances of women oppression left my blood boiling while the believable character relationships and arcs had me cheering. Loved this story and am excited to read more by such a talented author!

I am not one to think ahead in a book to see where a plot is heading, although I'm sure the more astute reader would be able to identify fairly early on the relationships in the book. I liked the characters, although I feel that we only really got to know the surface level of their personalities and even some of the more heartfelt interactions between characters, I'm not sure I ever really felt that I got to know them, so that would be something I would be interested to explore going forward in future books.

By the end of the book I had forgotten that Deka is only 16 and in hindsight find some parts not very believable that she would have acted in certain ways given her young age.

I find the book to be an interesting portrayal of a society where they are so wrapped up in their beliefs and acting in certain ways that nobody ever questions anything, even Deka's own family and friends. I do like however that Deka does have an internal monologue at least of 'why am I doing this', 'this doesn't feel right'.

The Gilded Ones lived up to the hype for me. It's a shame it has been pushed back until next year as it had the potential to be added to my favourites of 2020 list. I am really looking forward to this book being released into the world so I can hear other peoples opinions!
