While I did like the book (very well written), I struggled with the toxicity of the relationship. And I prefer female characters that are stronger. I still recommend it. But I may hold off on continuing the series.

Toxic relationship in the guise of "love"
It was good until it was just a toxic relationship in the guise of love. It went on and on like a ping pong when you know they will just end up together. A bit too drawn out for me.

Jax knew Aubrey was something special when his family moved in next door to her. Aubrey’s father was very abusive to both her and her mom. Many times her mom would suffer to prevent Aubrey from getting hurt. Aubrey kept her home life a secret and would try not upset her dad. One night her father found out that her mom allowed her to go out and he got so mad that he abused them locked them in a room, got drunk and set the house on fire. Jax had just gotten home and saw her house in flames. He ran into the house and was able to communicate with Aubrey through the door where she told him where to find the keys. He went and found her dad as the keys were on him. He was able to unlock the door and grabbed Aubrey and tried to get her mom to go with them. Her mom did not go with them. By the time they were our first responders were there and brought out two people, Aubrey’s parents, and her mom had died but her father survived. Aubrey moved in with the Stonewood’s and she fell into a deep depression and Jax was able to help pull Aubrey out of it. By the end of the summer she had fallen more in love with him and he left without saying a word to her and broke her heart. Six years later he walks back into her life and turns it inside down.
I really removed this book by Shain and it was very thorough with a lot of details. To me it just felt like this book too me forever to read. I will read the other two Stonewood brother books but I might read something else between them.

DNF
DNF at 43%. Tried skipping ahead, but I couldn't connect with the weak FMC. It had potential, but it fell flat. It was also 200 pages too long.

cute
This story was cute and I liked it but I feel like it was dragged out for way too long. This book could have been 100 pages shorter

I have read this book twice now and the second time through I had a lot of issues with Jax’s character. I liked the story line overall but Jax is just so toxic throughout 90% of the book. I want to like it more, but I just can’t.
Shania Rose rights some of the most frustrating characters ever but I eat her books up!
