Ok…

The book started off extremely well, and I will add that the whole book was very well written. However, it should’ve been edited better, because the back-and-forth between the main characters, the repetitiveness, was a bit ridiculous towards the end. It really turned this epic love story into something somewhat juvenile. Which is so disappointing because the book started off so strong.

This is my first book by this author, and it has been in my TBR for quite a while, so I’m somewhat bummed and frustrated with how it ended.

I wanted to like it, I really did, found on booktok.

The MMC NEVER APOLOGIZED FOR WHAT HE DID TO HER. Literally at the beginning of the book when he left I was devastated and then he just came back. No apology, no remorse just, I did what I had to do.

I kept reading bc I hoped it would evolve but certainly a journey. I love an aware alpha male and this guy was just a tool.

Loved the book but there’s something about Aubrey that bugged me.

I wanted to

I’m honestly over the intentionally self-destructive trope. I get it’s fiction and an escape, but I don’t understand how anyone can redeem themselves after the things these men do in these stories.

Jax is every bit of possessive and dominant that’s attractive, but sleeping with other women while only thinking of Aubrey and having no remorse for either girl is a turn off. And the scene with Isabel on the phone, including her, letting her talk…vomit

The ending I feel was thrown together too quickly with no realistic timing.

terrible mmc, crazy plot, and fmc was such a pushover. it felt really boring and dragged on.

I am so glad that I read Reverie (the second book in this series first) because if I had read this book first I would have not continued the series. I was interested to see Jax and Brey's story. I was severely disappointed to find that Jax and Brey are literally so unhealthy. They mention it throughout the entire book. Jax is a controlling person and he refuses to let up. The backstory of Brey's childhood, being abused physically and mentally, was a good start to show how messed up Jax and her would be after the fire. However, neither truly healed and they had to turn to each other to find closure. Brey is in a constant tug-o-war and pissing contest with Rome, her on-and-off-again lover, and Jax. Overall, this book was not that great for me.

Once again Shain hits it out of the park.

Jax and Brey are so imperfectly perfect for each other. Their back story is so beautifully crafted and so well thought out. The tension created is incredible and the story is just so well written. I love every side character and every scene of this book.

I think the flaws of this couple are what makes this book so incredible.

Hated to love this book

Oh, where to start….

This book was so frustrating at times and heartbreaking at others. A few times I almost threw my phone across the room.

It started off decent but dragged on. It felt like too repetitive and she gave in too easily. The ending didn’t make sense either.

So he just wanted to take him down? He refused to tell her anything for years despite knowing how much it traumatized her? Just to bankrupt him? And she knew they treated her like family but she was that upset over a trust fund?
