Whale Day

Billy Collins

3.87 AVERAGE

Another triumph for Billy Collins. It’s just so good. Worth picking up in hardcover or get on the waiting list at your local library. His poems are accessible without being banal and beautiful without being trite.

I don't know if Collins' poetry has changed or my tastes have changed, but I couldn't work up much appreciation of this book. Oh well.

Short collection many retrospectives on death and getting older. I'm beginning to understand.
My favorites if you should wonder and compare to yours: Sleeping on My Side; Imperial Garden; Evening Wind; Whale Day; The Symphony Orchestra of San Miguel de Allende; Architecture at 3:30 A.M. ; My Father's Office; April 21st; and Massage (which made me laugh out loud at ii.) Poems like whale day and April 21 stand out because I sometimes wonder about similar things such as where my husband was 10 years before we met but frequenting the local mall... how many times could we have been near each other or crossed paths? He would have been a teen and I would have been an awkward 10 year old.
