There are a lot of travel and literature references in this collection. I often love Collins for bringing humor and insight to the ordinary, but I found this collection less accessible and often felt like I just didn’t “get it.”
Billy had a few gems and few lines in this collection worth noting, but otherwise, this is ballast for the Collins ship.

This is the second collection of Billy Collins' poems I have read and it is an enjoyable one, though I preferred The Trouble with Poetry. This collection had a more solemn and reflective tone running through it versus the subtle wit and hint of mischief that dominated in the The Trouble with Poetry. A lovely collection of poems; just "not as much favorite." Hence, the 4 stars instead of 5. =)

An effortlessly whimsical juggle of mundanity and mortality. Favorites included “Symphony Orchestra…”, “The Garland”, and “April 21st”.
I forgot how much I love reading Billy Collins. I kept a notebook beside me as I read, playing with my own poetry.
