I have never heard or read Billy Collins but this was a welcome treat this morning as I started my work day. Thanks to PRHAUDIO for this complimentary audiobook listen. Of course I think it would do for me to go purchase a physical copy of Collins. For re reading. It felt like I was listening Nick Offerman but somehow more dry. And I know Collins has been around much longer but I am only millennial trying to be more well rounded. My comparisons are not always great but I found great humor and sadness in Collins poetry. Kind of my two favorite things to take away from poetry.
I am a huge Billy Collins fan. His poems almost always make me laugh. Truly, he is an American gem.

Billy Collins returns with another collection of gentle, humorous, and touching poems containing insights into everything from mortality and love to the simple pleasures of an autumn day or a cup of tea.
Billy Collins's latest collection made me smile a few times, and once I even laughed out loud. If you are a devoted fan of Collins, you're sure to like this. However, in my opinion, it seems a bit watered down from his earlier work.
Poems I liked included:
"Imperial Garden"
"Banana School"
"Identity"
"A Terrible Beauty"
"The Symphony Orchestra of San Miguel de Allende" - probably my favorite in the collection
"Cremation" -with cameo appearance by Bob Hope!
"Air Sax"
"The Flash Card" -these last two Jazz related fun
"My Father's Office, John Street, New York City, 1953" -tribute to a lost era and industry
"Massage"
"Hotel Rex"

Not my favorite collection of his particularly in the beginning, however many of these pieces I greatly enjoyed. My favorite was Anniversary.
I've owned and enjoyed many books of Billy Collins poetry and laughed and cried through much of his poetry. This one, unfortunately, didn't do it for me.
