I thought I enjoyed the book until I had a look at the next page by mistake while halfway through the book, and that was when I realised how horrible it was because of a bit that happened with animals that I couldn’t read more of it. I’m definitely dnf this book.

Urgh, this was really boring and monotonous. Nothing actually happened!

Goes on the very short list of favorite novels for this year. Magellan is one of the great leads. It's rare when "this + this" descriptions actually pan out, but the folks who say this is like Milkman + Derry Girls might be onto something.

I couldn't get past the first few pages. Something about the way it was written profoundly annoyed me

I need quotation marks in my books! Make this trend of not including them go away forever!!! Sad bc this book is compared to Derry Girls so I was so excited to read it. Maybe audiobook down the line.

An interesting, but not wholly satisfying slice of life set in Northern Ireland. Jellah has a lovely, interesting narrative voice, that is, at times, quite discomfiting, since she, herself is not quite comfortable in her own skin. The pace of the story is rather slow, but that fits with the mundane, but wholly entertaining details of her life at the late-night fast food joint in her small town. Nothing overly profound to be found, but a small mystery that is never wholly resolved seemed a let down in the end.
