Chris Chambers is perfection - as always.
The story is ok, a lot of inner monologue and actually not much happening.
It’s set in a corporate world and is, indeed, not very much connected to the other books in the series.
The narration is do good and Brook so bratty, I still loved it.

I really enjoyed it but why a low rating? I think the book could have greatly be improved by having Dimitri's pov.
There's an element to this story that bothered me a little bit (details below in the spoilers, but it's sexual preference rather than true spoilers), but overall I enjoyed this entry in the Mismatched Mates series. I even listened to the audiobook as soon as it was released a few months later!
This is mostly a standalone, although there are minor references to a previous book [b:Lost Touch|61478905|Lost Touch (Mismatched Mates)|Eliot Grayson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1658016571l/61478905._SY75_.jpg|95617703].

Spoiler
Our non-alpha lead starts the book thinking that he is a top, but the alpha he contracts to mate him (so that he isn't provided an alpha mate picked out by his family) says he's straight and only willing to top, so the non-alpha has to bottom. Non-alpha ends up really liking bottoming, so it's a happy ending for everyone, but it felt a little dismissive of his stated preferences. I would have loved to see more (or any) switching going on.

A mating of conscience between non-alpha were Brook and Russian alpha, down on his luck, Dimitri. This was a good one also, but again with not admitting their love till the last chapter!

Finally, some good fucking food.
I almost forgot not all romance had to be underwhelming prose with lazy first-person present tense and multiple POVs that remove all tension.
