This was such a satisfying end to the Sands of Arawiya duology! We Free the Stars picked up right where We Hunt the Flame left off, and so the story took so many twists and turns from that point.
The stakes were higher, the emotions deeper, and the characters really came into their own. I loved seeing Zafira and Nasir grow, both individually and together. Their dynamic had me rooting for them the whole way through. The slow burn was expertly done and had me blushing at every little crumb of romance we were served!
Altair as a side character was perfect to offer some comic relief in what, at times, was a pretty heavy story. So glad we got so much of him in this book and got to watch his relationship with Nasir grow stronger.
The writing was just as beautiful and atmospheric as the first book, and the world-building really expanded in interesting ways. That said, it did feel a bit slow in some places—there were moments where the momentum dipped and I wasn’t as invested, however, overall, the payoff was so worth it.
If you love lush fantasy with strong characters, emotional depth, and a good dose of angst and magic, definitely give this a read!
