GOOSEBUMPS after finishing... absolutely loved, loved, loved

Glad this was a duology. Audio was well done, but ran it at 1.4 speed for slow talking and pretty glacial pacing. In this book the zumra works to bring magic back but really it's a showcase for the slow burn of the Zafira/Nasir romance. I wasn't heavily invested in any characters in this set but I appreciated the world building and storytelling and fantasy readers who are good with slow moving stories will be all over them.

I unfortunately couldn’t love this like I did We Hunt the Flame. The writing is gorgeous but I just couldn’t get invested in this. Lowkey wish We Hunt the Flame had been a standalone.

I liked this series better than A Tempest of Tea (which is also good).  The characters felt more complex and the story-line had an old school epic fantasy feel.

Good book, but still suffers from the disjointed writing style. Nothing felt blended together, it was hard to connect to the world and immerse myself in it.

That being said, Nasir and Zafira were super cute and I loved their slow burn. Their love was probably the strongest point in the series, and it was the only part of the book that swept me up.

Also: the Yasmine and Altair tease ? Him talking about her hair? Her vision? ? ? Rude to hint at another great pairing like Zafira and Nasir and not give us anything in the end lol

I'm never going to be able to do this book justice with a review. NEVER. This book destroyed me and remade me again. I am forever going to be searching for the series that makes me feel the same, and I'm terrified I'll never find it.

Spice: YA 0️⃣

This is book two of a completed duology.

This duology was just the right length. Two books was enough to feel like the problem was complex enough that it was engaging but it wasn’t overly complicated or with too many twists and turns that made it feel like it would never end.

This story is about a girl on a quest to restore magic to her land. This book picks up where the first one left off, so it is the culmination of the story of how she attempts to make that happen.

Why you might read it:
✔️young adult series (no spice)
✔️epic fantasy (maybe a romantasy)
✔️rich world building inspired by Middle Eastern folklore
✔️easy to read
✔️quick moving (maybe sometimes too quick)
