So much fun! I got lost in the descriptions sometimes, especially during fight scenes, but I didn’t mind that much cause I love these characters. Altair my man my man fr

I don’t know what I was expecting but this just was not entertaining enough for me. The fact that I did not remember the first book might also not have helped at all
This was everything I needed and more. It was literally perfect and a great end to the duology.
I was unwell the entirety of the book, but like what's new.
Nasir and Zafira. Heart eyes all around. They are so cute and I loved their ending. I loved that it was Zafira to be the one to go to him at the end because as closed off as Nasir is, he knew he couldn't be without her. I mean he was saying it since the beginning of the book.
I really enjoyed Kifah and Zafira's friendship and seeing more of it in this book. I really loved Kifah as a character and how strong she was.
Altair is my baby and my one-eyed golden king. Love him. It was so fitting for him to become the king/sultan of Arawiya. He has been fighting for it his whole life and it was just satisfying to see him on the throne.
One scene I really liked was when Zafira came back and Yasmine and she were fighting. It made a lot of sense because Deen died and that's a pretty big thing for them to just not talk about. It really solidified their friendship in my eyes.
I also liked Zafira and the Jawarat coming to an understanding and learning to be one with one another.
I honestly just loved everything about this book. It was perfect. 5 stars.
Now time for all the quotes:
"You seem to have no trouble being the end of me."
"What color do you like most?" "Every color that makes you."
"My bride. My queen. My fair gazelle. Cannot all three be one and the same?"
"Fair gazelle. Please don't go. 'Please,' he whispered. His compass. His compass. His queen. His life. 'Don't go.'"
"He left behind half of his soul and the whole of his heart."
"They say the soul cannot rest until it finds its match. Then it ignites."
"No, he did not love her. The word for what he felt for Zafira bint Iskandar did not yet exist."
"He would take the stars from the sky and fashion them into a crown, if only she would have it."
"'Let me be your horseman.' Let me be your everything."
"Someday, she would learn he would anything for her. Someday, he would find the words to tell her as much."
"'Be mine, wholly and utterly.' She lifted an eyebrow. 'What if I want you to me mine?' 'Fair gazelle, jewel of my soul, I was already yours.'"
"'Why do you cry?' Zafira whispered. Roohi, roohi, roohi. He stitched her soul anew. 'Because my heart cannot contain it.'"

I have to be in the mood for many of the tropes this book had- a limited world( as in we literally don’t traverse from sea to continent to different lands unrealistic I know) and (quite honestly always the female) main character getting ‘sucked into the darkness’ and letting some external magic or power or force drag them into a bad mental place. I think it can be executed beautifully, but I have just seen it done badly so many times that it is kind of an automatic reaction to stray away from books that contain this trope.
i loved how this ended this little series, but i want the world to know it almost got a four because of HOW MUCH THE MAIN CHARACTERS GO BACK AND FORTH.
yeah, i get it. they're traumatized and love is scary. BUT THEY FLIP FLOPPED BETWEEN MAKING OUT I LOVE YOU TO I CAN'T BE WITH YOU UP UNTIL THE LAST TWO PAGES OF THE BOOK. i love a good enemies to lovers, but at some point you just have to call a spade a spade, admit you love her, and move forward.
overall good book, loved this series, will be buying it for my personal collection.
