Such a beautiful story! I loved Nasir and Zafira. It really bothered me that Zafira was only 17 years old lol. They were all so adult lije that the age didn't fit well in my head.
I'm also a little sad not having an update about how life is with the Ifrit living among them.
Overall, this book was amazing!

This book was essentially part two of the first book. Less like a sequel and more like an extended version of that book. I definitely loved this one more than the first book as well, especially since we got some questions from book one answered.
I will say that I still wasn’t entirely convinced of the whole Lion and Silver Witch thing but it was nice to see how they interacted near the end.
I will say that for my full thoughts on this novel, just go look at my review for book one but remember that I liked this book a bit more. Plus we got a happy ending and I wasn’t exactly sure that was gonna happen honestly.

I’m officially buying everything with Hafsah Faizal’s name on it. I loved this book so much that as soon as I finished this ARC, I pre-ordered a copy so that I could own a physical copy to match my copy of We Hunt the Flame. Faizal’s writing is lyrical and beautiful. Everything set up in the first book really comes together in this one. A few of the twists and turns toward the end surprised me. Readers are treated to even more of the world and leaders, like additional caliphs/caliphas. Zafira and Nasir both grew and evolved in important, believable ways and all of the characters really came into their own.
All around a beautiful, compelling duology. I really just loved everything about this one. I highly recommend it for any fantasy fan.

This book took me so long to read and it wasn't even because it was read as a book group read. We usually give it 2 weeks just because of life but legit, I had a hard time.
I expected this to be more exciting and fulfilling where book 1 shorted us. It had the same feel as book one but with more misery inserted.
Zafira was just a lost child. Nasir is emotionally stunted so he wont say what he wants or means. Kifah was just great, she's a favorite. Yasmine, when she appeared again, was just a grief filled jerk. Lana is an asset that Zafira ignores for fear of losing her. Altair is misunderstood for the wrong reasons because he is the only one doing the right thing. All of that can be simplified down to my tiny paragraph but this book is 500 plus pages of, again, word filler.
But they're such pretty words. They build an enormous world but it is narrowed down to these specific characters who want more for the population but don't include much of anything from them.
And this is spoilerish but I'm soooo disappointed with Misk's character outcome. Use and abuse characters just to make an emotional point? It would hit harder if these characters were included more in the story.

I loved the first book, and really wanted to like this book more. I continually held out hope for that outcome. I even started this book over as I had let a good amount of time ecliple between trying to read it thr first time and now. Sadly, this one didn't quite hit the mark for me. 2.75 missed stars.
bit of a mid ending to such a good first book it literally took me almost 4 months to CRAWL to the end
4.5 stars
I NEED MORE OF ZAFIRA AND NASIR AAAHH. So many things happened in this book omg.
I just don’t give 5 stars because of little things that happened but I loved this book anyway❤️

this was one of the best fantasy duologies to ever exist and i loved it sm (tho i liked the first book waaayyy more than the second one, but still). the zumra will always remain the most iconic group of baddies for me and Altair, my habibi, you know you'll always be the one i love the most
