This series is what first cemented my love for Patricia C. Wrede. It's funny, features strong female characters who more often than not are the ones saving the day, it has dragons that talk, and this sense of wonder that never seems to leave.

Loved this one. Much more thought out and interesting than the first. Felt like the world building really shone in this one and was just overall done very well. And I loved the humor of course. Of course I love Mendanbar and Cimorene together. They made the story.

My one complaint is that at the beginning of the book is an explanation of the order the books were written and their publishing story, which was interesting, but gave spoilers for the books. So, I would skip that introduction until you've read them all. The main interesting fact was that she wrote the second and third books after the first and fourth.

Not as good as "Dealing with Dragons* - and the ending of this book subverted some of the messaging of the first book for me... But still a fun little read. The Audiobook version is even better for the full cast.

I am now halfway through this series, and I already don't know what I'm going to do with myself when I finish it. So far, I love everything about these books and the world they're set in.

I love that Cimorene and Mendenbar didn't fall into the usual trope of hating one another when they first meet, only to fall in love later (that is so cringy and overdone). They get along almost right from the get-go and work together to do what's right. Everyone knows they're going to end up together, so it was nice to see them have a healthy respect for one another throughout the entire story/adventure.

I'm already 22% into Book 3, and I'm already loving it. I highly recommend this series to kids of all ages or to adults who are looking for an Enchanted Forest to escape to for a little while. When I'm there, I don't ever want to leave.
