I like the Temperance in the book by Kathy Reichs and I like the character developed for the TV series Bones even though the women are very different.
I think Reichs mixes just enough of the character's personal story with the suspense or mystery so I always enjoy the read.

First time reading Kathy Reichs, and as I loved the TV show (mainly Brennen and Booth... oh and Angela, and Hodgins etc) for years, I was nervous to see the original inspiration since I'd heard that they had little in common. But the book was free and I was on holiday, and mysterious satanic cult too good to pass up. Long story short, the book is nothing like the TV show, book Tempe not at ALL like TV Tempe (in this rare case, TV beats book), but as long as you accept that, and accept that the writing style is basic, it's actually quite fun! I really enjoyed it. Enough that when a local used bookseller was selling shop and I was filling up my box of books, I tossed a few more in. Hope those will be as fun as this one!
Meh. I didn’t like many of the characters and got tired of the cliche rhetoric. I wanted to know what happened so I kept reading. It was interesting.
It's Dr. Brennan vs the devil worshipers!
Or at least that's what it looks like when a plumber discovers cauldrons filled w/ bones & occult-y items. I read this a couple of months ago, so the details are fuzzy, but what I do clearly remember is that it happened. IT finally happened. After *years* of everyone surrounding Temperance blithely & coarsely drinking in front of her, she finally snaps & falls off the wagon. Not that I'm happy about it, but I guess it did feel a bit inevitable. I think that was the most unsatisfying part of the book; everything else about a mystery, details you didn't find out as the story progressed, are revealed & wrapped up in a neat little package for the reader in the last chapter. Here, Temperance gets black-out drunk & we never find out exactly what she did. She had been on a date w/ a newly revealed character from her past, but what she did, what she said, what HE did...nada.
Anyway, these books are what they are. I'll keep reading them, though.

Holy details, Batman! And I just listened to this. About halfway through, I stopped getting the extreme lessons in how and when molars break through or other random bone knowledge. But then, it started in on the extreme number of murders that are all seemingly disconnected. There were so many people I couldn't keep track of who was dead and how everyone was related. I won't be picking up another Reichs novel anytime soon.
Eh, not the best Bones book. I guess everyone has to do a Voodoo/Santeria themed book. I do like Brennan, though, as always.
Sorry, it turns out I have to reread this entire series every so often.
I thought this was a lot more science-y than a lot of the other mysteries in the series. This might appeal to some readers, but I definitely found myself skimming some parts. I also didn't think the resolution was particularly satisfying. Overall this was a fine mystery, but not the best book in the series.
