Meh. It kept me interested until the end. Books like these are kinda like my guilty pleasures. I can curl up in bed and have an easy read where the characters do and say silly things. It was an ok book.
The only reason this book did not get 5 stars from me is that it was too short. As always, Kathy Reichs left me wanting more, which is a very good thing.
I think this is one of my favorites in this series. I was really engaged in the story, and I just couldn't put it down.
Reich has a couple of writerly habits I absolutely hate.
1. At the end of chapters, she does lazy foreshadowing. Instead of just ending a chapter by saying, "This dangerous thing happened," and then going on, she writes something to the effect of "This dangerous thing happened. But later, something even more dangerous happened."
2. Brennan has these nigglings at her brain every so often. But the way Reichs writes it, it's like a huge neon HINT sign flashing at the reader. It irks me to no end. Readers will either pick up on it or they won't. Don't smack us over the head with it, please.

Once again, fairly standard but fairly enjoyable. Chapters almost all end with a cliffhanger sentence (“Maybe if I’d seen it, a life could’ve been saved.” etc), there is a “telling not showing” bit at the end as there usually is but the case was decent. Would’ve enjoyed more Andrew Ryan.
This book is from 2008 so if you do decide to pick it up now, please be aware of the skin colours of Black and mixed race people being described as nutmeg, cinnamon or similar, the r-word being used as a description of a mentally ill defendant and the main character somehow slut-shaming her own hypothetical behaviour.

Another great story from Ms. Reichs. Hated putting this one down but it is hard to read and work at the same time. I only hope that Ryan and Tempe sort themselves out =]
This one was incredibly good. I actually found myself sobbing at points, I was so involved in the story.
I read this book quite fast, as it was really involving. Quite liked the story even though I sometimes have flashbacks by now to old stories so I'm often not sure if I've not read the book already.
Still quite interesting, though more brutal than some of the other books I'd say.

Loved this! First book by Reichs and I'm addicted already. Her detail is fantastic and I love the way the themes serve to challenge the characters (and readers) perceptions!!
