Loved this! First book by Reichs and I'm addicted already. Her detail is fantastic and I love the way the themes serve to challenge the characters (and readers) perceptions!!

I really enjoyed this "Bones" book. There were interesting medical facts about the cases, a pretty normal/boring intermixing of Brennan's life, a running commentary about the workings of various departments on the case, and info on many pagan religions as that was the theme of the cases this book.

Ryan is annoying me
He is too old for this sh*t the eff
But good story anyway

It's true - one bad apple can spoil the whole tray. Speaking metaphorically, of course, because there's no mention anywhere in this book of apples. But 4 1/2 years ago I wrote that it was some years since I'd read a book by Kathy Reichs because I'd disliked the previous one and I'd been anxious about continuing in case of further disappointment. And that hesitancy still remained.

Horror of horrors, I think I've been like the 'one strike' proponents. This will not do! No more holding on to the memory of the bad apple that has long ago been cast away!

This book is classic Reichs. A convoluted plot, plenty of gory detail (but not in a sensational way), a good dollop of factual forensic information (for those interested in the science, but not so much that this reader's eyes gloss over), some nice touches of humanity (making even the nasty into genuine people, and creating characters we can relate to), and the ongoing family issues and love-life of Temperance Brennan. All this within a story that encompasses alternative religions, and promotes tolerance for them while having rabble-rousing intolerance as a key feature. A great read.

Loved the local flavor of this book, right in the heart of Charlotte.

Not the best book written by Kathy Reichs, she has done better. Good to see Ryan turn up, but apart from the ending, he didn't do much for the story line.

Being number 11 in the Temperance Brennan series, I kind of had to read this one before book 12.

It wasn't my favorite book in the series, the case was a bit lacking compared to others. It was also semi-annoying how pretty much the whole story thus far was re-explained. Anyone getting to the 11th book should have a good grasp on the story already.

Not my favorite, but not terrible. I'm hoping 12 will be better.
informative mysterious tense medium-paced

Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes

This was not my favorite book in this series. I just don't get excited about devil worship, voodoo and the like. I think it's overdone. I'm also ready for the relationship with Ryan to be resolved. I'm sure I'll read the next one,(since I already own it) but I won't rush out to buy any more of these books.

I am not going to read any more of these. Yuck and I miss my Seeley.
