Started slowly - couldn’t see me liking it! However the plot develops cleverly. The tension creeps along and then really picks up the pace.

I enjoyed the topicality and hope that Katie Hopkins and Donald Trump read this book! It shows the potential damage caused by hatred and anti-immigration tweets.

A very clever twist at the end rounded it off nicely.

A very impactful read focused on a (fictional) school shooting in Somerset. We follow the perspectives of students, teachers and parents during the three hours on a snowy November day during which the school is under attack. It dealt very deftly with themes of racism, the refugee crisis, radicalization and other contemporary socio-political issues. Each character's voice felt true and the setting was excellent: the bone-chilling cold resonating with the fear the narrative induced.

What really struck me as masterful was the fact that some of the students are working on a production of MacBeth, and the intertexuality between Shakespeare's play and the issues in this book
echoing each other made it clear how these issues are of all times.

The reviews on this book are 4 and 5 ⭐️ but I honestly feel like I've read a completely different book to everyone else. It was not gripping or  breathtaking and I did not feel one ounce of emotion. This is a book I know I will forget in a weeks time.

Three Hours opens with the horror of terrified children barricading themselves into rooms, a shot headmaster and a masked gunman stalking the corridors of a Somerset school. I was gripped and excited to continue reading. However, it went downhill quickly.

The layout of the school grounds was confusing and top many characters were introduced at once but were not properly developed.

This story had so much potential but for me I honestly felt what teenager do you know that would want to continue rehearsing a Shakespeare play in the middle of terrorist bomb threat situation and which teenager at the start of a school day would have a flat battery. Seriously at 9am everybody had a flat battery 🤔🙄

The book left me feeling underwhelmed with so many unanswered questions. Who was the third gunman?

For me not much happened in the story. The introduction was fast paced. Then it just seemed like 200 pages of nothing. Lots of references to low battery phones, switching timelines and points of view. Unnecessary political points of view then finally an ending that was predictable and dull.

This novel was exceptional. Based around children and teacher at a school under siege by terrorist gunmen, this story charts their quest for survival.

There were a few twists and turns in this novel - some expected and some not. I enjoyed the characterisation and the humanity of the children in the face of something as inhuman as a school shooting.

My heart bled for the students and parents as it becomes obvious who is carrying out the atrocities and why.

The only reason this gets 4.5 stars rather than the full 5 is because I would have liked to know who the third gunman was and unfortunately this wasnt revealed.
