This is one of those books that are just so compelling that you need more, but at the same time I find it to be badly written. Well what can I say, a compelling story trumps that.

Why do I find it badly written? It's the dialogue, it's not good, it does not always flow. And the thing is this book feels mostly like dialogue, there are never really any descriptions. Things fall into place way to easily too.

But, yes here comes the but. I finished the book in a day cos I could not put it down. When I did finish I wanted more, I need to know what happens and I even squeed a bit.

Maddie is very kick-ass, and she is Lucifer's grand daughter, way too cool. She has an awesome side-kick, she wants a guy she can't have and her dad wants her to marry this idiot. *jumps around from joy*. It's all so juicy so even if the flaws bugged me, the end turned me around like it did in book 1.

Not as good as the first but after the initial 50 pages, it picks up pace quickly.

JB ancestry surprised me a little but I feel like I knew something like that was coming. Amarantha is a firebreathing bitchqueen and I adore her, Baraquiel was kind of a surprise.

Hope there's more from the wolves, I feel like there's something brewing that I've missed.

The slight love triangle (?parallelogram) wasn't too distracting, but I feel a little robbed by how its turned out.

Still enjoying for the most part. 2 down, 5 to go

I really don't like Madeline at all. For a 32 year old, she sure is whiny and immature. I like all the other characters though, especially Beezle. The plot was a lot better than the first one too.

I quite liked the first book in the series. It was a promising start. After now having read the second book in the series I see now reason to change my mind. I will most likely continue with this series.

Madeline is now pretty well aware that she is a rather powerful entity and very much part of the world that goes bump in the night. Or perhaps I should say bang rather than bump when Madeline is involved. She is not yet aware of how powerful she actually is though but she is a quick learner. Sadly, some of the powers she demonstrated in the previous book are gone since they were part of Evangeline and her possession of Madeline. She recovers a few other though, which will hopefully stay with her. That together with the fact that most of the various despicable villains in the book always underestimate Madeline makes for a few really enjoyable surprise scenes. The scene where Madeline walks back into the court of the, less than honest, fae queen after having…(well you have to read the book to know what she did won’t you) was really good.

The other characters develop as well and J.B. is almost likable in this book. Nathaniel is still a bit of a sleazebag but he is also a bit more than that. The junk food loving grumpy Gargoyle is ever present of course. Then there are of course a few monsters, werewolves faes and the usual bunch of fallen angels around to fill out the scenes.

The story is quite okay. The faes and the fallen plots and schemes as usual and, surprise surprise, Madeline ends up in the middle. It is decently paced with quite a bit of action as well as verbal sparring. It also advances the main story arc in a good enough way.

All in all this is a good urban fantasy book will lots of magic and supernatural stuff in it.

Sooo much better than the previous novel! I'm a little confused with the whole romance aspect to the story, since it's so all over the place, but that's fine because at least we get to see different sides to all the characters. Still haven't gotten much character development though from Gabriel, which is strange since I'm pretty sure he's supposed to be, like oh-so-important to Maddy, yet I don't even really know anything about his personality. Oh, and there's a distinct lack of any good female characters - the only ones in the story have been portrayed negatively. That's pretty disappointing and surprising, since the story has squeezed in so many male characters already in the first novel, then introduced more in this novel.

Just when you thought things couldn't get more complicated for Maddy, they do. Lucifer finally calls in that debt Maddy owes, and it's a doozy. Throw in the strange disappearances, and a new series of murders and I found it to be one heck of a ride.
