Perhaps my favorite volume of the TCOO series thus far, Trials is an incredible elevation to this imaginative tale & is overflowing with breathtaking moments that are sure to shock, transport, stress, and heat you to your very core.
Tear me apart, keep me puzzled, toss in some spice tied into a bow by elegant and captivating writing and I'm all yours.
Nicole manages this and then some, epic story driven by characters that I can't get enough of. You will cry, scream, laugh and feel the heat. I need more!!

Every book in this series just keeps getting better and better. It’s so underrated it should be a crime. I’m obsessed with this world Nicole has created and the characters within it. The found family is everything. Our FMC Ophelia came to PLAY in this one, god I love her, talk about superior character growth and development. We finally got Tolek’s POV and I am so in love with this man it’s not even funny. His love for Ophelia is everything and I’m obsessed with their relationship, thank you Nicole for giving us HEALTHY COMMUNICATION!!! Malakai really surprised me, I did not expect to love his character as much as I do, I was cheering for him the entire time! I had so much fun reading this book and it absolutely did not feel like a filler book despite being the third book in the series which I am very grateful for. The battle scenes had my stomach in knots and heart racing and I loved every second. I did find it a bit slow to get into and the pacing a little slow in the middle, which is why I gave it 4 stars. All in all I cannot wait to continue this series!!
Absolutely honored that Nicole let me beta read The Trials of Ophelia!!!
If you love Throne of Glass, this is giving me a Greek mythology inspired vibe. Please read it.
I want to keep this spoiler free so all I say is Nicole has done a beautiful job developing her characters and letting them grow in a realistic way that’s healthy and normal for someone who has gone through the trauma a lot of the characters have gone through. Instead of just rushing through it or letting a relationship cure everything, the characters spend time working through their issues.
Everyone who was annoyed with Ophelia in book 1 should really stick with it because she comes so so so far.
And I’m still screaming over the ending, I can’t wait to see where the next book takes the crew!

I love this book. If you’re looking for a slow burn storyline that tears your heart apart with each step. This is it. There is so much character development between all the characters, that I can’t wait to read the next one. Thank you for letting me be able to advance read this!!! I can’t wait for the Novella and Book 4!!

WOW. I have not felt nearly this way since queen of shadows. So much is happening in this book and it is SO GOOD. We have a TOLEK POV. Ugh I love him so much. All the main characters I love and I am so glad 3.5 is about cyph and vale
2025 reread: just as good as I remembered. We now have 3 different POVs (Ophelia, Malakai and Tolek). After the battle at Damenal, the gang is rebuilding, dealing with grief and waiting for a member to wake up from his coma. Then we go the new quest: find the 7 angel relics that have angel magic in them to fulfill Damien’s request to Ophelia. On top of that we have Queen Kakias and her armies being sus then they surprise attack and the end is another battle.
- trials
- working through grief and ptsd
- more questions about the quest Damien is having her go on
- twists and betrayal
-spice 🌶️🌶️
I love the inspiration on scenes from TOG

This was an absolute amazing read! Nicole’s ability to world build while keeping the plot interesting and character development going completely amazes me. A huge inspiration as an author, and I’ve loved watching Ophelia and her crew grow throughout the series.
I’ve been recommending this series since the first book and I will continue to do so. It is a must read if you haven’t yet! If fantasy and found family with unexpected twists is your thing, you definitely need to read this series!
