1. As other reviewers have stated, ignore the comparisons used in the description. Though there is a rock star and his Cher-esque wife who get introduced into the fold, this book is in a league of its own. I agreed with a previous reviewer who stated that this reads like a YA novel more often than not, despite some of its subject matter.

2. I struggled with the book, not gonna lie. Though it picked up after Sheba and Jimmy's arrival, I found myself getting frustrated at how 14 year old Mary Jane was more of an adult than the true adults around her. I felt like she was doing way more chores than she was expected to do, and as much as I knew it was being done with love and her wanting to be around the family more, I found myself wanting the adults to intervene or help her some, which eventually and thankfully did start happening during the later portions of the book. The author also made sure that the adults' behavior was acknowledged, which I appreciated.

3. All in all, it's not a bad book! Like I said, it did pick up the pace and there was some interesting and juicy drama that I didn't anticipate, which was a pleasant surprise. I will advise to really read the content warnings for this one, though, because the dialogue gets pretty upsetting between Mary Jane and her parents.

this is one of the books I call 'neutrality' because I don't like it nor hate it.

The story is super cute. Loved most of the characters (it's on sight with Beanie Jones though). Definitely a good mix of Almost Famous & Daisy Jones, but it's not quite in the same league. There were some questionable things that made me wince, but I guess it was all very...of the time.
