I am glad I knew ahead of time how this book would go, because it is definitely an erotic psychological thriller and not a romance. But knowing that, it was very gripping and powerful.
This book literally blew my mind! Initially I thought it was a dark, erotic story, realized it’s not really a romance, then later started suspecting a suspense story. Since I don’t want to spoil it for readers, suffice to say that the first 45% of the book is dark and disturbing, then it changes to intriguing and hopeful, and ends in an HEA.
I wasn’t convinced by Ant’s attractiveness, always saw him as sleazy and controlling, I saw Cass as a woman so starved for love that she believed what she wanted for the sake of love. She was hurting from being dumped by her boyfriend, so she was easy pickings. Then when Gerwyn appears, I sighed in relief, because he’s such a decent person, warm and caring, and a real crusader.
The first part of the book I found disgusting because of the degradation involved, then the second part I was riveted and enthralled, waiting for how it would sort out. This is not a normal romance, but more like a mind blowing story. I didn’t end up happy and sighing like when you read a yummy romance, more like relieved.

Wow. This was an experience. Taking us on a dark Rollercoaster of manipulation, coercion, and sexual assault.
It was hard to continue through the book and I expected adark ending after everything but I'm relieved. though i wish there had bit a bit more of the HEA, and maybe a few more happy love scenes between Cass and Gerwyn to break up the otherwise heavy plot.

This author is always one to push the envelope. There were times that I was in shock while simultaneously asking myself, "does this turn me on?" I'm almost ashamed to say that it did. It also made me extremely uncomfortable. This was a kink that I didn't even know that I had...well, kind of but with some deviations.
I'm not going to give anything away because the revelation that comes out had me shocked. I've got very mixed feelings about it.
Off-topic, that last chapter, and seeing it mimic the beginning?! Good lord.... My stomach fluttered and I'm not sure if that was a good feeling or not.

I really don’t know how to rate this because it is a fantastically written book, that kept me in suspense but I hated everything that happened in the story! I found nothing sexy or fun. The spice wasn’t spice to me it was something else

Well Jade sure didn't pull any punches in here as this book was full of triggers, so check the warnings before reading. If your familiar with Jade's writing you know she gets down and dirty, and this book wasn't any different. She is one of my favorite arthur's. This book had many twists and turns and what I thought was going in one direction only to go another. I loved it.
