Unpopular opinion? Just as addicting as those cheesy Hallmark movies I love so much. It is Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift with very Gilmore Girls coded aspects (spoiler, hundreds of yellow daisies).

This book definitely got better the more into it I got. And it has about every romance trope you can think of all wrapped in one. The writing is witty, funny, emotionally driven, full of banter, the best of the cheesiness, and so sweet. Amelie takes you of a journey of love and loss, ups and downs, and an emotional rollercoaster of feelings. And I am obsessed with all things Ian Roberts.

I finished this book in 2 days. I almost couldn’t stop reading. And being in a bit of a reading slump before this, I think that means a lot. If you like romance, drama, enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, strangers to lovers, and a he fell first and he definitely fell harder story, this is the book for you.

I loved this book!!! Huge thank you to the author for the ARC, it truly was awesome to get to experience this. And it really was a story that got me hooked and I fell in loveeee with the characters

Loved this book! At first I was a bit confused with the flashbacks but that was just me, I didn’t read the chapter numbers so missed the mentions about it.

I adored Ian since the beginning. Poor Amalie went through a lot and had a lot of pressure. I enjoyed the character building and the way her and Ian relationship enveloped.

It was a light hearted, good read with a bit spice.

Amelie and Ian have my heart!

“I think friendship is at the base of the best love stories.”

I read this book for the first time more than a year ago as an ARC received from Letizia.

Now the book will be published by Gallery Books and I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this version.

Ian and Amelie meet at a wedding but she is “engaged” so they become good friends.
Amelie has great character development, becoming more confident and standing up for herself after being mistreated.
Ian, as described by Amelie, is “more than hot. He’s sensitive, smart, talented, hilarious”. Plus he has such a dirty mouth. I fell in love with him all over again and I wish he was real.
This book made me laugh, cry and laugh while crying.
There are so many things I liked about it:
- there is a dual timeline - we gradually find out parts of what happended in the last year
- this is a strangers to friends to rivals to lovers
- slow burn, but worth it
- he falls first
- more than a rom-com
- the text exchanges between them are hilarious (cheese lines and unpopular opinions)
- the ending and connection to the first book (Desserts for Stresses People)

I recomand this book and look forward to the next ones in the series!

Thank you again Gallery Books and Netgalley for the ARC. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I absolutely adored this book and I am so glad I was able to get an ARC. The book was well written and made you love and hate the characters. You pull for Amelia to stand up for herself, you hope Frank gets what he deserves and you just hope that Ian gets the girl in the end. I enjoyed the dual timeline, finding out what happen in the past to bring us to the point we are at in the future. Definitely recommend this book and I will go back and read Dessert for Stressed people because the characters seemed interesting at the end of this book and I want to know their story.

Top 5 favorite books of the year hands down

I read this wanting something light and happy -- that was not this book. The first half of this book is very depressing. Amelie's life is a mess, both in the present day and the flashback starting a year previous. It does get better and there is a HEA, but it is well into the book. The dual time lines definitely kept me hooked. I had to know how everything fell apart.
