The Wedding Menu is the second standalone novel in her Love & Other Recipes collection, and it’s incredible. It’s had the same haunting, second chance romance with a deep emotional vibe that I’ve been looking for since reading Beach Read. This book is told in dual timelines meeting and the climax of Ian and Amelie’s relationship. It’s sometimes funny and lovely but also achingly tragic too. There are painful moments and deep, deep emotions that run through these pages. The kind of book where even after the happy ending, the depth of feeling still haunts you - the best kind of love story in my opinion.
Anyway, read it. I’ve just finished the first two be, Desserts for Stressed People and it’s so cute! You won’t regret it.

Ho potuto leggere questo libro in anteprima e penso di essere stata raramente così felice per aver ricevuto un libro (e io aspettavo ogni anno che uscissero i volumi di Harry Potter, per farvi capire. sono così vecchia.)
Un anno fal'unico problema (ok, facciamo due), gli unici due problemi di Amelie erano i seguenti: 1. convincere il suo ragazzo, Frank, a chiederle di sposarla in modo che lei possa avere il matrimonio da favola che sogna (e progetta) da una vita; 2. convincere la sua migliore amica Martha a non rubarle completamente il suddetto matrimonio da favola, copiandole spudoratamente TUTTE le idee. Mica poco, direte voi. La svolta arriva con l'incontro tra Amelie e Ian ad un matrimonio (ovviamente quello di qualcun'altra, sia mai), che arriva giusto giusto per farle capire che forse tutto ciò che ha desiderato per tutta la vita è solo una sua idealizzazione, e non servirà a renderla felice se arriverà a ottenerlo con la persona sbagliata. Di sicuro, poi, Frank ci mette del suo proponendole un patto folle: la sposerà facendole avere il matrimonio dei suoi sogni, solo se lei accetterà di vivere questi mesi come coppia aperta, in modo che lui possa soddisfare tutte le sue fantasie con altre donne, preservando così ai suoi occhi la sua futura sposa (molto moderno, Frank).
Un anno dopo Amelie di problemi ne ha effettivamente molti di più: è senza lavoro, senza fidanzato, senza migliore amica, un articolo di giornale l'ha screditata in tutti i modi possibili e immaginabili e persino Ian, il suo Ian, spalla consolatrice e persona di cui si è follemente innamorata, è sparito letteralmente nel nulla... Viene invitata a una convention culinaria di una settimana nella città natale di Ian e partecipa nella speranza di rivederlo. Scopre che Ian è il figlio del rivale d'affari di suo padre e, ancora peggio, ormai vuole solo un'amicizia da lei. Ha una settimana per convincerlo a cambiare idea.
Ho amato tantissimo questo libro, il mio preferito dei due scritti dall'autrice, il tipo di scrittura, di caratterizzazione dei personaggi è unico, così come è unica in questo caso la scelta di usare la doppia linea temporale, poteva risultare un passo falso ma in realtà si è rivelata ottima nel rendere la lettura più fluida e dare quel tocco in più al racconto.
Mi sono rivista molto in Amelie, in quanto la sua storia - in parte - mi ricorda la mia storia personale. Si ritrova in un momento della sua vita in cui tutto intorno a lei sta cadendo a pezzi e non sa quali passi fare per uscire da questa situazione.
Vogliamo parlare di Ian? Per me quest'uomo non può fare niente di male, è perfetto.
Ian ha sempre rispettato Amelie fin dall'inizio. Rispetta i suoi limiti e i suoi sentimenti, aiutandola persino nella pianificazione del matrimonio nonostante i sentimenti che prova per lei. Non si arrende fino agli ultimi istanti prima del fatidico giorno del matrimonio, e la sua decisione di tirarsi indietro è guidata esclusivamente dalla necessità di preservare almeno in parte la sua dignità.
“He asked me to sit in his chair so he’d have an excuse to talk to you. He said you were the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen.”
“I don’t I . . .” Throwing another look at the couple, he mumbles, “I don’t think I’d ever stop looking at you that way. If you were mine.”
“Your fiancé is an uninterested douche who doesn’t treat you the way you deserve. The way I’d treat you.”
“No. You and I are never a bad idea.”
“I have no self control when it comes to you. I’m sorry.”
“I knew I was playing with fire, Amelie. And besides, I’d let you burn me anytime.”
“I fell for you without noticing, because it didn’t feel like falling, it felt like standing. So fucking high.”
“It’s because if you spell desserts bacckward―” I sigh loudly. “Never mind. Let’s go in.”
“It’s fine (…), we’re doing this thing where we say whatever passes through our minds.”

Wonderfully written love story, it breaks your heart and then puts it back together all at once.
I LOVED this!!
It was so cute! I loved the two main characters and the duel timeline. The timeline was really easy to follow. The flow of the book was amazing. Set up to where you didn’t want to put the book down.
The FMC’s character development kind of surprised me a little. I found myself wanting to yell at her to stand up for herself and when she finally did, it made me so happy!
There were so many times that made me laugh. The banter between the FMC and MMC was great. I loved their humor and the tension between.
Easily a top 10 read for me this year!
