A bit of an interesting read. Some of the cases were interesting and I was surprised I'd never heard about them before like the surrogate family and the immortal souls cases, others I didn't care much about. Was thinking of giving it a 2-star review because I found the middle section boring but, decided to give it an extra star because of the last story being the James Bulger cause which is one of the cases that interested me for a long time that I already knew about and I was excited to see it when I got to the last chapter.

Pretty standard true crime book. Sticks to the main points without much detail.
Focused on UK crime. Good mix of very well known & lesser known crimes.

An ok read of some of the UK's most infamous and well known crimes, it also included lesser known ones. The chapters were short and you got the general gist of what the case was about without being bogged down by too much detail.

However it could have done with an English editor going over the book, wording and grammer was all over the place!

At first, I found this book to be a little exploitative and almost felt it was inappropriate in places with exclamation points gleefully highlighting some really shocking incidents. Actually, I wonder if this is more of a translation issue. As I persevered with the book, I grew to really enjoy it and sensed that the editor felt a strong moral imperative to challenge injustice. I enjoyed the plurality of voices in the text but probably did enjoy Adrian Langensheid's sections the most.
I had never heard of some of the most fascinating cases and cannot what to research them further. This made the reading experience worth it.

I wasn't a huge fan of this book, I think the chapters are far too short for some of the more notorious cases that are picked with little more information than you could find out on Google. It's a difficult balance trying to find interesting examples and keeping the chapters short to get more in bit I just didn't feel it worked.
