Alaskan Holiday

I received an advanced reader copy and this was a perfect book to pick up on a cold, fall day. Alaskan Holiday is a sweet love story that takes place in small town, Ponder, Alaska. It is told from two perspectives, Palmer, and Jessie - both have fallen in love while Jessie was working as a chef in Ponder over the summer. When it is time to return to Seattle, they struggle with goodbye, but in the end, Palmer let's her leave to follow her dreams. What happens next is for the reader to enjoy.

An aspiring chef and country swordsmith fall in love over a blissful summer together in Ponder, Alaska. Come autumn, Josie needs to head back to Seattle to take a position in a high end restaurant. On the eve of her departure, Palmer proposes (awkwardly) to her but doesn't get the answer he hopes for and Josie leaves. They promise to stay in touch and see how things go but as the months go on, they communicate less frequently, largely due to Josie's long hours at work, and Palmer takes fate into his own hands and chases her all 2000 miles south to try and convince her to come back to Alaska.

This story was very short (4.5 hours on audiobook) and it starts when the couple has already established a relationship so there's not really any awkward get-to-know-you mishaps, but there are some awkward how-do-you-talk-to-girls moments. I enjoyed the cozy atmosphere of the Alaskan town and lodge, and I dug the Seattle descriptions (I'm from the area!). The characters were given big personalities, I think to make up for the book being so short and not having time to introduce them over a number of chapters, which was fine and well done. The one thing that bothered me was the narrator's choice of voices for some of the male characters. I get that it's a remote Alaskan wilderness kind of tale, but when your characters sound like cartoon representations of north Canadians, it's a little ridiculous and harder to get lost in the story.

Alaskan Holiday was a sweet, quirky Alaskan romance with two interesting characters who took a little while to figure each other out! Palmer knew he liked Josie from the start, but being an Alaskan man raised far away from other people, expressing that wasn’t his forte. Josie’s dream was to put her culinary degree to work, and she wasn’t sure she could do that cooking up moose stew forever. So what are these two to do?

I always love sweet Debbie Macomber romances around the holidays. This one won 5 cold Alaskan husky bonus points for the cold setting and quirky moose-meat factor! Plus, I really liked Jack as a side character. He was a hoot! In terms of the romance, we were also at 5 peppermint lattes. These two were just so sweet. I would say in terms of a holiday book… probably two snowmen, simply because compared to previous offerings like “Merry and Bright” this one isn’t super-Christmas-y, however, it’s got great foodie- and cool setting vibes, both in Seattle and Alaska, and is a great read all its own. Very much enjoyed.

Went into this book with low expectations to be honest, but absolutely loved the story and the narrating style. It was a little bit long at times but it had me smiling from ear to ear pretty much throughout all the pages.

If you’re looking for a love story, that is a light and easy read I definitely recommend this one

Alaskan Holiday fun

This was a fun book to read. I loved getting to know the characters, and the story plot was fun and engaging. I learned more about Alaska and the hardships and loneliness involved in living in remote area. I loved seeing Josie's resilience, and Palmer's gentle nature; both of which made these characters more loving.

This is a must read book for those that like romance and enjoy culture.

This was very cute and I love anything with Alaska.

This was an absolutely adorable book and I felt like I blinked and it was over! The romance was sweet and swoon worthy and made my heart so happy! Though the romance is the cutest, Jack really steals the show in this one!

I have had the wonderful pleasure of reading Alaskan Holiday a few years back. It was actually one of the first books that I read by Debbie Macomber. It was such an amazing cute little read! Now, years later, I dedicate November to January full of books written by Debbie Macomber. I honestly feel like I am reading a Hallmark Christmas Movie whenever I read Debbie’s work, which I am not complaining about! I am obsessed!

Boy did jack get on my nerves lol. I think i need romances that have “meet cutes” in them bc this kinda skipped ahead to them already being in a real serious relationship. i want some young love splish splashed in there & this didnt really do it for me
