In "One True Loves," Taylor Jenkins Reid masterfully explores the complexities of love, loss, and the journey to self-discovery. The story follows Emma Blair, who finds herself torn between her first love, Jesse, and her second chance at happiness with Sam after a tragic event. Reid's writing is both poignant and evocative, drawing readers into Emma’s emotional turmoil as she navigates the heart-wrenching decision of choosing between two incredible men.
The characters are beautifully crafted. Emma is relatable in her struggles and growth, while Jesse and Sam each embody different facets of love that resonate deeply. Reid's ability to depict the nuances of relationships makes this book a compelling read. The themes of grief and rediscovery are handled with sensitivity, allowing for moments that are both sad and uplifting.
While some may find the premise a bit familiar, Reid elevates it through her rich storytelling and vivid character development. The pacing keeps you engaged throughout, though there are moments where the emotional weight feels heavy. However, these moments ultimately contribute to a satisfying resolution that leaves readers reflecting on their own experiences with love and how if you believe that there is only one true love, does that love grow as you grow into a different person over time?
Overall, "One True Loves" is a beautifully inspired tale that captures the essence of what it means to truly love someone, better yet, what it means to BE truly loved by someone, both in joy and sorrow. A must-read for fans of heartfelt romance!

One True Loves
Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.5)
💭 Imagine: Your husband the love of your life is presumed dead in a tragic helicopter crash. Two years later, just as you’ve pieced your world back together and found happiness again engaged to someone new you get a call.
📞 It’s him. He’s alive. And he’s coming home.
What an absolute emotional rollercoaster 😭.
An impossible choice, and no matter what, someone’s heart was bound to break.
I can’t imagine losing the love of your life, finally finding the strength to move on, and then discovering they were never gone at all. On the surface, it feels like it should be a simple choice, but it’s anything but simple.
The way the author described how love changes and evolves over time was so beautifully written. As for the choice Emma makes..I’m still undecided about how I feel.

This book is about three unlikeable characters based on a ridiculous premise.
I’ll start by pointing out that it was obvious from the beginning that she would choose Sam so all of the fake agonising over the choice and her internal dilemmas was all very moot.
Emma basically lets herself be defined by other people for the majority of the book, even when she pretends she isn’t. I would have loved to see an ending where she didn’t end up with either of them but here we are. The events in this book happen to her and she just lets it.
Sam is giving incel from the beginning and doesn’t really get much better from there. He’s one of her best friends but just ghosts her completely once she starts dating another guy? Cmon man.
Jesse basically tells Emma what she wants and what she likes and that somehow works for their ten year relationship?
Anyway. Didn’t really care who ended up with who (partly because it was obvious who it would be and partly because I didn’t like any of them) and this story was so surface level that even the plot didn’t even really fully engage me. TJR’s works have definitely come a long way since this one.
