Pleasantly surprised by this book. Was an unexpected story, and a quick read. And it’s the kind of fanciful fantasy world building that I love! The kind of things you imagine when you’re a kid.

This is one of the coolest and most unique high fantasy books i have ever read. Its very heavy on the world building but it keeps your attention very well and the protagonist is amazing!

Yes, this book is so boring and dull. But, the last 100 pages saved it. And Cardan saved it.
Yes, it has insta love. I loathe it, but Jude is kinda powerful character, even though she's not a faerie.
I need for friggin >2 weeks to finished this book, nearly DNF it. But I give it a chance...

It's about Jude Duarte, 16 years of old mortal girl who lives in faerie land, called Elfhame. Faeries hate mortal, and Jude tries to prove that she's worth it. And there's Cardan, spoiled and drunk brat, who hates Jude so much. But they're gonna team up for something political about the crown.
For me, the plot twist was not that shocked, just so-so. I wasn't surprised..
The good thing is I can wait for [b:The Wicked King|26032887|The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air, #2)|Holly Black|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1520620414s/26032887.jpg|45959180]

For those who have read the ACOTAR series of Sarah J. Maas, as I did, you will certainly compare them with this smaller series of which this is the first book.
There are quite some similarities with ACOTAR, like this book also mentions Courts (like Court of Shadows), High King (instead of Hugh Lord) and Houses of ...
The book has a great storyline, with lots of events which succeed in short periods of time.
Big difference is that ACOTAR is more or less focused on wars, this book is not. However it doesn't lack of any violence... Where ACOTAR involves around warriors, this books is written around sisters and princes.
All in all a very nice alternative next to ACOTAR: I will definitely read the sequels of this series.
