WOW! What a good book, I really didn’t have a clue as to how this book was going to end but it did not disappoint.

Um. This was incredible. I read The Guest List last year and it was one of my favourite books of 2021 and this is up there for my favourites of 2022.

This story follows Jess who, upon getting to her brothers apartment in Paris, realises that he isn’t there and something feels very off.

There are such a range of characters in this and I love that, just like in The Guest List, we got all of their perspectives from the concierge to the good friend. I like that they all had their own lives as well as being caught up in this mystery. The writing style was really good and felt so easy to immerse myself in. There were lots of twists in this as well that I really enjoyed.

This was one of those books where I kept saying ‘just one more chapter’ again and again. Couldn’t put it down! I’m not going to say much more about it because I will end up spoiling it but it was incredible and I loved it!

“When someone tells you to stop looking, it normally means you’re on the right track.”

Alright so I give this book 3.75 stars because it was way better than The Hunting Party but still not great if you know what I mean. This was my second book by Lucy Foley and I'm not sure how I felt about the multiple POVs. My issue with this is that every character has a back story and that can be alot to resolve in one book. I'm not sure how I felt about the ending either, it felt a little too fairy tale. They killed the father and buried him in the courtyard and the police are quite content with him disappearing because they discovered his dirty little secret.

Apartments In Paris

This book was particularly slower paced compared to [b:The Guest List|51933429|The Guest List|Lucy Foley|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1580194251l/51933429._SY75_.jpg|73094861].

I found the story extremely similar to the (terrible) TV show Only Murders In The Building (which I can't believe got signed for more seasons), meets Last Night in Soho - but if both were even slower.

I also want to compare Lucy's writing to that of [a:Alex Michaelides|17621440|Alex Michaelides|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1526317750p2/17621440.jpg]. They write similarly, it almost feels like Lucy is replicating the beats that Alex mastered in [b:The Silent Patient|40097951|The Silent Patient|Alex Michaelides|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1582759969l/40097951._SX50_.jpg|59752778].

I'll still probably read more of Foley's books, because she seems to be the only author who writes similarly to [a:Gillian Flynn|2383|Gillian Flynn|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1232123231p2/2383.jpg] (although not half as well). GILLIAN I miss your books!

Was it a life-changing mystery? No. Did I enjoy it thoroughly? For sure. I've seen some reviews that say not much action happened in the book. Valid concern, but for a locked room mystery, there was enough plot advancement to keep me hooked

It was... fine? I definitely wanted to get to the end to see all the mysteries unravel, but once they did, I just felt very "meh" about the reveals. All of the characters were extremely unlikeable. That can sometimes be done well, but it is still a bit of a trial because at some point I begin to stop caring who killed whom and what lurks behind closed doors.

That said, the narrators for this book were pretty excellent, so that definitely helped!
