Liked this one WAY better than the first one with the shoes. This one makes more sense.
Created and illustrated by James Dean. Story by Eric Litwin. Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons. 2012. 32 pp. $16.99. Harper. 978-0-06-211058-9. Part of the Pete the Cat series. Pete the Cat is back and he’s very pleased with the four groovy buttons on his jacket. But when he loses them one-by-one, Pete never loses his trademark nonchalance. As he skateboards along he remembers he has one button left - his belly button. As with the other Pete the Cat books, children are taught that when things go bad, they can always choose not to let it affect them. A complimentary CD is available. Pete is always portrayed with his perpetually calm gaze which supports the book’s theme. Illustrations use bold, high-contrast primary colors in a simple, childlike style. Especially in combination with the accompanying music this book could be an excellent choice for storytime or to put in the hands of a child who needs a reminder to maintain their calm.
Listening to my kids say "Goodness no!" was what made this one such a great read for me.
Boring. And with bad art. Apparently there is also a tedious repetitive song to go along with this tedious repetitive text. It ends with a belly button which isn't enough to save the book. I was reminded that that these are for children, but still if an adult has to read it, they shouldn't suck.
COUNTING 1 2 3 4
By song
By drawing to know 4 -1 = 3 and so far until zero.

We l-o-v-e Pete the Cat!! And, we're going to love him even more this year in our lower grades as he introduces the way cool skills of addition (and by reverse subtraction). He also reminds that changes don't bother us, we just go with the flow and remember its all good!
We get a surprise sighting of a special button in Pete's life at the end of the book. My Kinders will think its Groovy!!

I love Pete the Cat. Perfect for story time and a perfect, or should I say purr-fect, gift. Such a great message of moving past disappointments and to always find the good in every situation.
