Listed as one of the 2013 American Library Association Notable Children's Books, this Pete the Cat book is entertaining to younger children. My daughter is six and loves the predictable story. With colorful illustrations and a groovy repetitive song parents will cringe after reading this out loud a few times--a hallmark of an excellent picture book.
The message in this of "it's ok don't cry" was annoying, but this book is probably better suited to toddlers and preschoolers than elementary children.

My daughter LOVES Pete the Cat!! From colors to Math, we love Pete the Cat! Now my daughter's belly button is "groovy". LOL
My little one loved this book. The song is catchy and the subtraction is educational. Good read all around.
Love this book!! Plus it was one of our Geisel Honor books this year. Always a hit in storytime.
Pete the cat is probably in my top 5 picture books. This the third in the series is all about Pete's groovy buttons. Is it as good as Pete the Cat? No, but it is still fun and I am sure fans of Pete will enjoy it. The song is not as good as "I love my white shoes" but it is catchy and easy to sing. The illustrations as always are awesome and truly make Pete the character he is.
I was not expecting a book on simple math, so what a pleasant surprise this book turned out to be. Not only is it funny, but it has bright, colorful illustrations, and enough rhyming repetition to get kids interacting with the story. The subtraction pattern, simple though it is, gives very young kids exposure to beginning math, and also gives them clues on making predictions in the story. This was a win for us.
I read this a total of four times in two days for Halloween/Book Character Day and LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!!
Pete the Cat is groovin' his way through his day with his four groovy buttons. "My buttons! My buttons! My four groovy buttons!" But will Pete be perturbed when he loses a button?
Great read aloud for younger grades. Students can follow along with the story and countdown as Pete the Cat loses his buttons. Groovy pictures go along with the story.
