And we get Hunter's story with Serena and this one is not YA, so yes I loved it! Hunter being an Arum is assigned to protect Serena, and sparks fly, the chemistry between these two is scorching hot. I love arrogant heroes and Hunter is one I liked and wanted to know more about. Definitely worth reading but please read the Lux series first.

"My life would not be complete if I didn't hear this story."
You're so right, Lore. So right! "Obsession" is such a great addition to the whole Lux series. It gives you the chance to understand the "bad" boys of the series so much better. And let me tell you, they are super interesting - I never saw them as "thinking" ... aliens. They always seemed to be pure evil, always wanting to kill but Hunter, Dex, Lore and probably a lot more proved it wrong.
I freaking loved Hunter! He's cocky, funny, very arrogant and extremely goodlooking ... handsome, sexy and obviously a sex god. Oh, and he's an Arum! His point of view was interesting to read and all the information he gave Serena about his kind were amazing! I don't want to give too much away but I loved the way he changed throughout the book. And well, his scenes with Serena were always either hilarious, super cute or extremely hot ... yes, there were also serious parts but damn, I loved all their bickering! And a big YES to Serena! She seemed a bit shy at first but once all that shit happened and she met Hunter she became really badass! I just loved her a lot!
"His commanding attitude sparked a rebellious nature I never knew I had."
It's really impressive how JLA managed to make me completely dislike the Luxen in this book ... because I really did. They were UGH and I wanted to punch them all because of what they planned and everything else. I'm kind of torn now who to like more - Arum or Luxen? Hunter made me understand the Arum a lot more but then there are also the "good" Luxen like Daemon .... oh god, i don't really know.
All I know is that I really, really enjoyed this book and that I love Hunter, yes. I hope we will see him and Serena in Opposition again! I really need to! Maybe even with Daemon and the rest as a team against the evil ... Arum and Luxen. Together with Luc and some badass origin kiddies. Gooooood, I'm so excited for Opposition now, ahhh!

I'm a huge fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout's Lux series—as face it, we all pretty much are, right?—so there was no doubt in my mind that I had to read Obsession. And it being an adult book in the Lux world just made it all the more delicious. Originally I planned on not reading it as soon as I did, what with all the review books I still have to read, but when I saw a lot of people right from the moment Obsession came out, reading it and putting status updates about it I couldn't resist any longer and just started it, ending up with only putting it down for maybe two times at most. I'm sure we can all agree that as soon as you read Obsession it is the hardest thing to stop reading.
First of all, JLA writes awesome adult books. I seriously wished the Lux series were all adult books now. There's no doubt about it, this woman can write anything. She has so much talent! I loved her idea of writing a book about an Arum because the only way we've seen them is in the Lux books and they are, let's say, not exactly nice. JLA warned us how we would see things in a different light, involving the Arum, and she was totally right. Obsession gives us a total different view on them and how everything indeed isn't all black and white; I loved that!
Most of all, I loved Hunter. He even gives Daemon a run for his money. I'm not going to say which of these two hotter than hell aliens is my favorite because I am not at all able to say. One being from a young adult series and one from an adult, they can't be compared at all. I just can't do it!
Obviously people will compare them, and in one way they are a little alike. Both have an big snarky attitude but in my opinion Hunter's attitude is even worse than Daemon's, if you can believe it. The list thing's that I loved about Hunter are endless for sure but the one big thing that I thought was the best was how Hunter was so brutally honest, to himself, Serena or any other person. Never ever did he lie about what he is, wanted or that he knew he was going to get it one way or another. I loved the way he turned from reluctantly babysitten Serena to fiercely protective of her. *Le swoon!*
Serena was a fantastic heroine. JLA knows how to write them well. I loved how she always had the balls to confront Hunter. I admit he is a little scary and dark. Serena also felt the same. She knew he could easily lose control and kill him, which he did a few times, but nevertheless she never backed down. They were very different from one another. She, a human. He, an alien. Worlds apart and yet the attraction between them couldn't be denied. Love, love, love, loved that!
Obsession is both in Serena's and Hunter's point of view. I love dual points of view + I almost always like the guys take on things. So great! I loved both, especially Hunter's. His narrative was so amusing to read at times. Another thing I loved is how you don't have to have read the Lux series, although that makes this book all the more interesting, what with learning so much more about both Luxen and Arum.
There were a lot of other characters introduced to us. I really liked Hunter's friend Dex. If you think Hunter might be a special case that makes him not like other Arum, think again, Dex was just as special, settling down with a human. Also he was freaking hilarious. And I wonder, will he ever get his car back? So once again everything isn't black and white. I don't believe that all Arum are evil now. Just like not all Luxen are good. It's a gray zone.
Also *grins*, we saw some characters we actually know from the Lux series. I'm don't want to put spoilers out here and say who but one of them was a certain green-eyed Luxen we all know and love. Needless to say I was fangirling like crazy.
As I'm always used to with a book by JLA, the writing so good and it flowed really well. Before I knew it the book was done and over in two days (even though I swore I was going to take my sweet time). I was really sad when I finished it. I need more Hunter and Serena. I hope JLA is going to write more about them in the future? Pretty pretty pretty please?!
The overall story I loved, too. I never knew what to expect, who was going to show up, in what mess Serena was going to get herself in next or what unexpected thing Hunter was going to do. It never got boring and that's one of the most important things in a story for me, personally.
I also must say I loved the romance. Incredible attraction + the romance was so hot! Another thing JLA writes disgustingly well. There were a lot of panty-dropping hot scenes. If possible, I've become an even bigger fan of Jennifer than I already was.
Jennifer L. Armentrout did it once again! Is there anything she can't write? I think not! Obsession was perfection dipped into awesome sauce. I fell in love with Hunter from the moment I met him. I couldn't get enoug of him or the story. Him and Serena have absolutely become one of my favorite romantic couples of all time and I hope with all my heart to read more of them sometime. If you have read the Lux books this is a must-read and even if you haven't read it this is still an amazing book to read. 5 stars more than enough deserved!

"Well, the good guys really weren't typical. They really weren't the good guys at all, but if I discovered anything, there was no such thing as white and black. There was a lot of gray in the middle.
Wow, for anyone reading the Lux series (starts with [bc:Obsidian|12578077|Obsidian (Lux, #1)|Jennifer L. Armentrout|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1328275091s/12578077.jpg|17588854]) this is a MUST read.
I now know Arum and Luxen, Luc and the DOD so much better.
Wait, that's a lie. I now know some of their dirty little secrets. I'm not sure that means I know them better, I just know what they didn't want me to know
and I love knowing it!
But now I miss Daemon and Katy even more. But Hunter was a nice replacement for a moment.

And the award for the biggest jerk goes to....Hunter👏🙄
I just couldn’t stand him.
Just no.
„Your arrogance is rooted in stupidity.“
And the other MC, Serena, is awful too.
She is that kind of person in horror movies, when she hear some spooky noise in the dark basement, she goes to check it out.
But beside that she was really annoying.
Like what happened to the characters in this book? None of them were interesting and the book was pretty boring too.

To be honest, I didn't like this book all that much. While having some nice action and being in the universe of one of my favorite stories- it was so smut oriented that it was mainly cringeworthy. It feels like the Autor tried to compensate on all the missing sex from the lux saga, the sex scenes themselves were really weird and didn't make any sense. It just wasn't for me.
4.5 stars
I really really liked this story! I didn't know this was about an Arum so it was a surprise but a good one.
I love Hunter! He's so funny and sexy! The fights between him and Serena are so full of sexual tension and are so funny! ahahah
Serena is awesome too! She has always an answer to give and it's pretty funny that's she was always throwing things at Hunter.
I think this book really helped understand the Arum and that not all of them are so bad. And that there are Luxen that real bitches. I learned about Arum history which was cool and how their "powers" work.
I have a feeling that the reason Serena's best friend was killed is the same reason why at the end in Origin. I hope Hunter will show up in Opposition that would be so cool. And he would become an ally and Arum and Luxen would solve all their problems and they would be happily ever after
I did not know that he appeared in one of the books and he met Daemon!!! I so have to read the Lux series again.

Daemon, Dee and Dawson were taken by the LuxenI did not know that he appeared in one of the books and he met Daemon!!! I so have to read the Lux series again.
I love the writing, love the wit — as I did with the Lux series — and the characters were wonderful, but currently I am a little off the domineering male type, so sometimes Hunter was too much. And I especially didn't like how quickly Serena got over . Not only was this NEVER addressed, but she slept with Hunter the very same night like she was not emotionally unstable in the LEAST, which felt like a downplay of a very serious event. Not to mention how little Mel was, well, mentioned, given that she was a best friend and the story's inciting event...
Spoiler
a freaking Arum trying to RAPE her
I wasn't sure what to think of this book. It's a spin-off of Armentrout's YA Lux series (of which Obsidian is the first book). But Obsession is aimed at a more adult market and focuses on the Luxen's enemies - the Arum.
I enjoyed the writing. It was fun, sexy and an interesting read. It was cool seeing the opposite side of the coin so to speak and see just how similar the Arum and Luxen are - and who their true enemies are.
The switching POVs added to the overall feel of the novel - and I enjoyed it more for that. Hunter and Serena are a good match and I liked getting to read their story.
