I’m really glad I finally got around to reading this! I’ve had it sitting on my kindle for AGES. I’m glad I finally got to see and understand how Hunter and Serena got together because it definitely made me curious when we dealt with them in the Lux books. So this definitely filled in some gaps for me and gave me more information about things.

So, so good. Hunter was just....wow. No words for the scale of his arrogant hotness.
Lange habe ich auf dieses Buch gewartet und war super glücklich als es dann endlich bei Thalia im Regal lag. Mit hohen Erwartungen habe ich zu lesen begonnen und ich wurde nicht enttäuscht.
Handlung
Serena muss miterleben wie ihre beste Freundin zuerst durchdreht – behauptet, dass Übernatürliche Wesen existieren - und dann von einer riesigen Glühleuchte umgebracht wird. Das Verteidigungsministerium wird auf dem Plan gerufen und schickt Hunter, einen Arum, der Serena vor den Lux beschützen soll. Während Serena darum kämpft, herauszufinden was ihre Freundin denn nun eigentlich verheerendes herausgefunden hat, muss Hunter sich daran gewöhnen nicht zu verletzen, sondern im Gegenteil, zu beschützen.

Ist als Mensch, der sich plötzlich unter Aliens wiederfindet ganz schön mutig. Sie hat biss und lässt sich nicht einfach so herumkommandieren, realisiert aber durchaus wann die Lage so prekär ist, dass sie doch besser auf einen Befehl hört. Sie merkt die Anziehung zu Hunter sehr schnell, ist aber trotzdem abgeschreckt von dem was er tun kann – nicht allerdings von dem was er ist. Auch ist sie es, die zuerst bemerkt, dass sie wohl stärker für ihn fühlt, als gut für sie ist.
Hunter
Arum sind keine Beschützer, das weiß er. Er ist kein Mensch, hat keine Seele und hält nichts von Gefühlen. Doch aus dem simplen Auftrag Serena zu beschützen, wird bald mehr und das, obwohl er sich anfangs dagegen gesträubt hatte. Er wird im Laufe des Buches etwas zärtlicher, bleibt aber immer sehr hart / direkt und behält sich auch seinen lasziven Witz.
Meinung
Dieses Buch ist ganz anders als die restliche Obsidian Reihe, das ist mir schnell klar geworden. Einerseits unterscheidet sich der Sprach/Denkstil leicht von dem aus den anderen Büchern. Es wird oft geflucht, sehr viel eindeutig zweideutig gedacht. Andererseits sind auch die Sexszenen sehr viel expliziter, was für mich auch der ausschlaggebende Grund ist, dieses Buch nicht als Jugendroman zu bezeichnen. Wobei ich sagen muss, ich mochte diese Direktheit und Offenheit, finde, dass sie Abwechslung bringt – vor allem Hunters Dominanz im Bett – allerdings ist das Buch dadurch eher für Junge Erwachsene.
Zwischen Hunter und Serena gibt es eine sehr eindeutige Spannung, die nicht nur in tollen Liebeszenen endet, sondern eben auch sehr unterhaltsame Dialoge bringt. Ihre hin und her Streiterei macht Spaß, Serena die kein Blatt vor den Mund nimmt und durch Hunters offen sexuelle Anspielungen dann doch oft in Verlegenheit gerät.
Ich mochte, dass Hunter von Anfang an ein harter Kämpfer war, oft skrupellos und das auch geblieben ist, auch wenn er zunehmend mehr für Serena empfunden hat.
Auch find ich es sehr gut / sehr realistisch, dass Serena vorsichtig war, was seine Kräfte betraf. Wie Katie auch, war sie fasziniert, hat aber im Gegensatz zu ihr etwas mehr Zeit gebraucht um sich an seine Fähigkeiten zu gewöhnen und ihre Angst aufzugeben.
Außerdem muss ich kurz erwähnen, wie toll es war Luc und Paris (!!!) wiederzusehen, die leider nur eine kurze Rolle gespielt haben.
Was mich gestört hat, allerdings hat das nichts mit Jennifer L. Armentrout zu tun, sondern mit der Übersetzung, sind die Ausdrücke. Ich weiß, jeder hat da seinen ganz eigenen Stil und englische Schimpfworte im deutschen Fließtext machen mir auch nichts, da wir sie ja auch in unserer Alltagssprache ständig einsetzen, aber andere Worte ("sein Claim") haben mich jedes Mal kurz stocken lassen. Ein kleines Detail, nichts Gravierendes, was aber meinen Lesefluss gestört hat.
Auch gab es diesmal sehr wenig Außengerüst. Die Geschichte war absolut auf Serena und Hunter fokussiert – was mich während des Lesens nicht gestört hat, mir aber danach aufgefallen ist. Dadurch, dass die beiden auf der Flucht waren, gab es weder Jobs, noch Freunde noch Familie die irgendwie mitgemischt haben. Teilweise natürlich schon, allerdings immer nur wenn eben gerade Hilfe von außen benötigt wurde. Finde ich schade, daher hoffe ich natürlich, dass viele Freundschaften / Verbindungen im nächsten Band weiter ausgebaut werden.
Noch ein letztes Plus: Da Hunter ja ein Arum ist (und in einer Arum-Gemeinschaft lebt), war auch der Einblick auf die „andere Seite“ interessant, da bis dato doch sehr stark aus der Sicht der Lux erzählt wurde, bei denen die Arum eindeutig die Bösewichte sind und nun, mit diesem neuen Blickwinkel, wird diese Schwarz-Weiß-Malerei noch stärker hinterfragt als bisher.

Eine weitere, tolle Ergänzung der Obsidian Reihe, die zwar in mancherlei Hinsicht anders ist, aber nicht weniger fesselnd und aufregend als die anderen Bände. Eindeutig zu empfehlen.

This book surprised me in a few ways. For one thing, I was unaware of this books existence for quite some time. I read the first three books in the Lux series, before stumbling upon this little treasure here (Thank you goodreads!). I found this book very interesting. In the Lux series, which I do LOVE, the only side of the story we get to hear is the Luxen's. I loved that the Arram had an explanation and unique version of events. I also enjoyed the characters, plot, and overall feel of the novel.

Fun extra book after reading the lux series. It's nice to know the other side of Arum.
It is more romantic set and clearly new adult instead of young adult like the lux books.

Aaaaaaaand Jennifer does it again! WIN! My first reaction upon seeing this announced was Whaaaaaaat?! Another book by Jen set in the Luxen world?! That's awesome. This isn't about the Luxen. Nope, this is about their enemies the Arum.
Let me just say, this book was awesome. Awesome. And this review is probably not going to be constructive in anyway what so ever. Obsession started out awesome, continued to be awesome and ended awesomely. Yeah that's a lot of awesome. It's written in the duel narratives from Serena and Hunter (HAWT!). I loved getting inside both of their heads, and both of them having to deal with the outcome of a Luxen being witnessed doing a very very bad thing. Very bad thing indeed.
As always, JLA really has a way of really getting you sucked into the story, from the get go I couldn't get enough of this and I loved it. There was mystery and intrigue, humor and sexual tension. I loved the relationship between Serena and Hunter, it's very much a "Ugh. I hate you, but you turn me on so much" kind of start to the relationship, then over time it just kept developing and growing and eventually they gave in to their urges and. It. Was. Good! Whoa. Hot, hot, hot! There is great character development in this book that is seen from both Serena and Hunter.
The story itself, was thought out and to be honest when I read Obsidian and the ones following that, I was adamant I was on Team Luxen...now? Not so much. Obsession will make you rethink EVERYTHING you know and like about the Luxen, and I dare you not to fall completely in love with Hunter and all his Arum ways.
Obsession is a stand alone, but the ending felt quite open for me so I'm hoping that JLA will see how much this will be loved when more people start to read and hopefully write a sequel, because to be honest, I want more. More Arum, more Hunter, more adult stuff within this book.
Overall, really loved this book, same concept but told from the Arum side instead of the Luxen side, full of sexual tension, laughter, mystery and suspense. If you loved JLA Luxen series, then you're really going to love this one, and don't worry Daemon fans....he makes a small appearance in the book, but you won't notice because Hunter is yummy and will keep you going right through until the end.

There's not much to say... Buut!
To read about an Arum made the whole thing so interesting. While I always pictured them as ugly, dark creatures, in this book, they were all hot dudes - especially Hunter (duh?)
I figured that the Luxen and the Arum aren't so different as we sometimes might think!
I already kinda liked Hunter when he appeared in the Lux series, but reading his story made me get the Arum a bit better. And as it is in the real world, so it happens to be in this book: we can't generalize who's good and who's bad. There always good and bad guys.
That's why I think it's such a good book to read. Not only because it's a freaking hot book (I still can't get over all those scenes, so much better than anything what Mr. Grey might have done to Anastasia) but also because as a Lux fan we get to see the Arum world and we get how they work!
All in one, such a great book!
