I felt so torn while reading this book because well I love JLA she's an awesome storyteller and she writes some of the most swoon worthy guy characters I've seen so far. I mean she knows how to take that annoyingly hot, absolutely asshol-ish guy and make him lovable. Her heroine's are mostly smart, witty, absolutely amazing and kick-ass characters. Yes, they all have their faults but the grow and learn throughout the book and get even better throughout their series.
I put this book down after every couple chapters back 2014 simply because it just wasn't clicking for me. This story is set in a world in which I love and I honestly wouldn't mind more of this particular world. Just not told from these particular characters POV.
This story just didn't grab me like I needed it to. I didn't care much for the Characters at all, I honestly thought it was just because of... Well I'll just say it Daemon and Katy! I remember thinking (more like shouting at the walls) "WOW is she trying to make him even more of a jerk than Daemon was?" or "Seriously Katy was not this stupid!" I ended up trying to forget about Daemon and Katy and actually give Hunter and Serena a chance. It worked (mostly during the sex scenes) but honestly every single time I started to like Hunter he did something kind of juvenile. In fact that seem to be a thing both of the characters had going for themselves. They acted/reacted to situations in a very childish manner. That put me way off, I mean if it was YA I might have been able to let some things slide. I just couldn't with these adult characters.
Serena made the MOST asinine ass decisions ever. I'm glad this is fiction because seriously a person can't be that delusional( i take that back I know someone who is). Then don't get me started on the fact that they both didn't know the other had a thing for them. It was mainly Serena asking questions like.. What made him do this for ME, I'm not understanding why he would go through this for ME, It's just a job, but why did he do this extra stuff for ME (I'm paraphrasing) but Seriously it was something along those line every pages after a certain point in the story. Made me want to pull my hair out.
The overall story was just okay. I was however excited when it got to the parts that took place in Origins and seeing some of the characters I love from The Lux series. That and the steamy sex scenes made it enjoyable.
I seriously wouldn't mind more of a story in the Lux/Arum world. I want Dee's story or maybe a prequel standalone that's set back in time on the Luxen/Arum planets. I would LOVE that, it could show everything that happened from the POV of someone who actually experienced it. I know they talk a little about it in the series but that would be awesome.
Overall it's a solid 3 stars because it's not that I hated the story (I can't hate anything JLA writes) it's just that this one wasn't for me.

On second reading...not a five-star rating. Was just excited for a new book from the world.
I am officially in love with Hunter! Never thought it'd be possible for me to like an Arum in the Lux world but just like there are bad and good Luxen, there are bad and good Arum. Hunter is bad but good. He's basically a good bad boy. Unapologetic for what he is but will fight hard for what is his, what means a lot to him. In this case it's Serena - a human. Really enjoyed the dynamic between those two. They are a sizzling hot couple! Once again Jennifer Armentrout captures me in one of her books. Would definitely recommend!
I'll be honest, I didn't finish this. I found it too frustrating. I felt like I was reading terrible fan fiction to be honest. How can someone be considered crazy for throwing stuff at the person who KIDNAPPED them days after they watched their friend murdered by an alien? Why does she care about Hunters erection when he is holding her down to the bed after kidnapping her? Because we can't even 20 pages into a New Adult novel without there being sexual tension apparently.
If it had built up the tension with the two coming to trust each other as they get to know each other then I would have been able to understand it. Probably would have even enjoyed it. Instead it's getting forced down my throat.
Also the main female character in this novel is exactly the same as in the LUX series, just 4 years older. I know they say to "write what you know" but if you want this book to stand out and feel like it's this world in an adult setting then you need to change as much as you can. It needs to stand out. This just doesn't do that.
Honestly, I was totally disappointed by this. The LUX series has become a guilty pleasure of mine because the world and alien stuff is interesting enough to pull me through. This novel was a chance to change that guilty pleasure into a love that I gush about to friends without shame. If there hadn't been such a strong focus on the relationship between the characters so quickly then that would have happened. I get there is a whole series where world building it happening but this book should have started with some of that. Serena should have learnt more about these alien races and whats going on with them before starting to comment on the size of Hunters penis.
This was a book that could have had so much potential and let me down. I guess I'll continue to hide the LUX series up the back of my bookshelf where noone can see it.

MAS RESEÑAS EN -------------------- http://believeinromance.blogspot.com.ar
¿He dicho que amo esta saga? ¿No? Bueno...
Danna.

First of all you should all know that Obsession is a spin-off of the Lux series... you know Daemon and Katy!
And I loved it.
Where the Lux Series is definitely YA this one is most definitely Adult. I mean... look at that damn cover for one thing!
In Obsession, we meet Hunter. He’s arrogant, domineering, and... To. Die. For. I couldn't come up with a better statement than the summary did so I'm borrowing! LOL
Hunter does some work for The Department of Defense. Did I forget to mention that he's an Arum? Oh... yes he is. You know the Arum as the enemy of the Luxen - you know, Daemon's side of the team.
This presents a bit of a problem you see. Because I most certainly didn't dislike Hunter one bit. And I most certainly don't hate Daemon. So you can sense my dilemma right? It's made it impossible to pick a side now!! *shakes fist at Jennifer*
Anyway, Hunter is assigned to protect Serena Cross. Serena witnessed her best friend being murdered, but no one believes how it happened or who is behind it. The son of a powerful Senator is responsible, and that Senator isn't going to lose his position or his family to some human.
I always love Jennifer's ability to pull me into a story and this was no exception. Hunter is a jerk ... or he tries to be. For some reason he's starting to get a bit of a soft spot for Serena and suddenly his attitude starts to change.
I absolutely loved the chemistry between Serena and Hunter and when they finally come together you most definitely won't be disappointed. Despite the fact that she's human and he's... not, they just work together and if you think that Daemon is a bit full of himself, just wait until you meet Hunter. But all I can say is that it's deserved. LOL
I am definitely interested in where Armentrout takes this series going forward, especially with the overlap with the Luxen series, and it will absolutely be interesting to see how the two might merge.

Oh holy hawtness! Wait, hold up....

Whew! This book was just full of awesome! I never imagined that my next book boyfriend would be an arum. Like ever! But, I was sadly mistaken! Hunter is HOT!! I mean sizzling hot! He has a lot of issues and really, REALLY did not want to fall for Serena but she got under his skin and he cannot help but protect her! That alone makes him hot as hell and your typical bad boy. (which I tend to gravitate towards)
The book starts off with Serena and her BFF in a bar. Her friend is freaking out trying to explain that her date and his brother are not human. She says that they started glowing. Serena thinks she is definitely losing it and tries to calm her down enough to convince her to just stay over night at her place and they can figure it all out in the morning. When they get to the parking garage, all hell brakes loose! And into the picture enters Hunter. His job: watch and protect Serena. And does he ever:) Hubba Hubba!
Serena is all kinds of cool too! She can kind of be a smart ass when she wants and tends to try to put Hunter in his place. She gets frightened by him several times during the book and yet there are times that she forgets what he is and seems almost human.
Now I knew that I would love this book because Jennifer wrote it, of course. It definitely does not disappoint! Jennifer has a knack of creating strong women and hot bad boys for all of us to love. AND! His name is not spoken in the book but I believe we even got a small, tiny glimpse of our favorite alien, Daemon. So of course the book was awesome just for that:)
My only wish is that this is not the end for these characters! I hope Jennifer brings them back to us again. Oh, how quickly I fell in love with them!

I agree with everything Stephanie Clark said! This book is hot. Really hot. I really enjoyed the grown-up POV, I also liked the contrast between the Luxen/Arum focus. Even though I also love the Lux series, I did find it a bit hard to read after a while because I got tired of Daemon and Katy fighting over how involved she should be in "his world". And also when they go to 3rd base in Opal, its so vaguely written that it isn't even sexy. Maybe it's not supposed to be? Ok, that's way off-track...anyways, Obsession = hot.
3.5 stars. WOWSA! I would recommend reading this book before the new book Origin comes out. My mind is blown and this book will give you a new and different perspective on everything.
