I really enjoyed this book. After reading the whole Lux series told from a Luxen and human's point of view, it was interesting to now read a book set in the same world at the same time told from an Arum point of view. I loved the chemistry between Hunter and Serena and really liked the as a couple. The story was an enjoyable mix of action, thrill and romance and i loved the way it intersected with the Lux series. This book kept me interested from start to finish and I am kind of hoping that they might feature in the darkest star, or we that we might see some more books or stories about these characters in the future as I would love to read more about them.

An extremely enjoyable read.

Sigh..Oh Hunter ♥ Jen has done it again! Absolutely loved this! This was great and certainly changed my opinion of the Arum - Luxen world. I just loved Hunter and Serena, and I hope we'll see more of them. I wonder if they'll make an appearance in Origin??

LOL so I forgot that Hunter was Arum for like 5% of this book and got so confused (basically I forgot Arum existed, and I read this series like two years ago! guys we need to talk about my brain and how I forget so quickly)
it was very racy!
I still don't get why women seem to like the assholes you guys, someone please tell me why because I wanted to slap him until about 80%

It was nice to get a glimpse of Daemon even if he didn't really say anything to make it obvious that it was him but whatever :)

I will admit, the start of this book seemed a bit slow and I felt as though I was reading the adult book version of Katy and Daemon BUT…as I kept reading it, I started loving it and I became emotionally invested in the story, Serena and Hunter. There is absolutely nothing YA about this book and it is very adult which I appreciated immensely.

“I smiled then—a big, toothy idiotic smile— and Serena didn't see it. Her eyes were closed, which was good, because I was turning into one big vagina.”

This book needs to be read, especially if you’ve read the Lux series as it will give you the much-needed insight about the Arum. What I learned is that there is no good side or bad side but simply very bad people and I thought I should hate the Arum, I don’t and it’s quite the contrary.

“If I continued, I would kill her. Stopping would be going against my nature. Arum were killers. And I didn't hide from what I truly was, even if I was the DOD's bitch boy.”

Serena is a feisty character that I came to love and she doesn’t take what Hunter dishes and I love that. And Hunter is arrogant but not in a nauseating way which I absolutely appreciated. Hunter and Serena balance each other in ways that make sense and their chemistry is absolutely intense!!!

“Even with all the crazy stuff happening recently, beneath the sorrow and the anger, I was still a red-blooded, twenty-three-year-old woman sitting in front of a man, who may not be a hundred percent human but had to have caused a panty-dropping crisis across the universe.”

I think one of the many things I liked about this book is understanding who the Arum are and their struggles which was an eye-opening for me. I’m hoping that more books will follow Obsession and that a major cross-over between the series will happen!

“Never in my life had I been more frustrated. Go figure it wouldn't be with a human but a freaking alien. At least I now knew that the male species were asses no matter what planet they hailed from.”

This book is fantastic companion novel to the Lux Series but if you haven’t that series, you are missing out!!! Happy reading!!!

I really loved this book. And I loved how it led into Opposition (Book 5).

Hunter and Serena are so perfect together. I really hope Serena and Katy meet in Opposition. That would be interesting to read. Hopefully Daemon can hold it together long enough to not attack Hunter again. I'm secretly hoping they'll be friends. Or at least allies.

I'm going to go crazy waiting for the next book!!! How will I ever make it until the end of August 2014?

Come on Jennifer! At least give us some snippets of Opposition to hold us over. Please.

This book just wasn’t for me. I usually get a modicum of enjoyment from JLA titles, but the tone of ‘Obsession’ felt possessive bordering on abusive, and smutty (but not in a good way.) I missed the witty banter, the angst and slow burn romance. This was thinly disguised hate-banging. The whole book left me squirming uncomfortably.

Told in two different perspectives – that of Selena, attempting to clear her murdered girlfriends name… where sometime through the narrative it turned into retaliatory justice. And that of Arum Hunter. Hunter is quite frankly, a dick. Sexually aggressive, arrogant, and stays that way throughout the entire story. There is only a hint of a softer side as he develops feelings for Selena, but because of the nature of the tone in this novel, I am not convinced. I feel the heavy hand of the author weaving the threads of their fate. And Selena… you in danger girl. She just keeps overlooking warning signs. She reminds me of one of those supporting characters in a Mob Boss movie. You know, that girl who’s hanging around for sex and clout because she doesn’t feel like she deserves any better. That’s the impression I get of Selena.

There is a lot of death and dismemberment, a lot of swearing, and bumping uglies… and I’m sorry but some of the descriptions of the intimate times had me roaring with laughter than feeling my feels. I just can’t.

The plot is simple. I would’ve thought that bringing the Lux universe into an adult setting we would have gotten a more complex, ‘adult’ multi-thread storyline. This was even more simple that any of its YA counterparts. It felt like an excuse to have some characters in this universe finally get to have some sex scenes in the forefront. Total wish fulfilment. Given that it had such a one-note story, it was also extremely predictable. And I ended up speed-reading the entire novel only to slow down on the occasional good bit. I still like JLA’s writing style, but there was so much not working for me in ‘Obsession,’ that it didn’t really get a chance to shine.

Given this was published 5 years ago and there hasn’t been talk of a sequel as yet, I’m guessing it wasn’t as well received. It has potential, but it’s completely outshined by the rest of the novels set in the Lux universe.

This is a complete miss for me and I don’t recommend this unless you desperately want more of the Lux cannon. You won’t miss anything about the series if you skip this title. Maybe the more recent Origin series set in the same universe will fare better…

I loved reading about the Arum for a change!

5/5 stars

Someone said this was a smutty version of lux, and indeed whoa JLA needed that dark romance smutty novella after giving us the full Luxen series.
This was also super interesting because we get to read more about the Arums, their powers and how they basically work.
But plus smut between Hunter and Serena and I am not going to complain about that

Easily one of my favorite books read this year!

This book was great! Didn't think I'd love an Arum, but Hunter... Hot damn! How could you not fall in love with him?! Daemon has some competition. Yes, I did just say that, haha.

In all seriousness, JLA has made me an even bigger fan with Obsession. I'm sad to hear that this will be the only book. I'd love to have read more about what happens between Hunter and Serena. But this is definitely a must read! So read it if you haven't and if you have, read it again because I sure as hell know I will!

I only read this to get over a book hangover. J. Lynn really gave an effort in trying to get me to like the Arum, but in the end I pretty much wanted them dead. The only good Arum is a dead one, good try Jennifer.
